Deadline New York is reporting that with MGM seemingly in a financial straight jacket, and Bond 23 on hold, Sam Mendes is putting in play his next two projects. First up, he will be directing the stage musical “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” He hopes to have a holiday 2011 premiere in London. From there, the hope is that the production will go to Broadway. As sets and other things for that production are being worked on, Mendes wants to direct the feature Chesil Beach....

When revelations were made about the on-set attitude and actions of Joss Whedon, many stars of the writer/director’s shows and movies came forward to finally share their experiences. This included a number of actors from the 90s smash Buffy the Vampire Slayer, such as Charisma Carpenter, but one person who remained silent throughout was lead star Sarah Michelle Gellar. Now the actress has explained why she chose not to speak out in relation to the allegations against Whedon....

Given its intentionally offensive material, it was really just a matter of time before “cancel culture” made its way to South Park. From its very start in 1997 (has it really been that long?!), South Park has been rocking the boat as one of the most controversial shows on television. That’s to be expected from an animated series following a group of foul-mouthed schoolchildren with one of them dying horrifically on a weekly basis, especially when nothing like it had ever been seen on television before....

Yesterday, I had the chance to speak with actress Shailene Woodley for The Descendants, which just came out on Blu-ray and DVD. Shailene Woodley is also heading back to the small screen as Amy Juergens in the ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which kicks off the second half of Season 4 Monday, March 26 at 8 PM ET with Episode 4.14: Smokin’ Like a Virgin....

Channel 4 posted an interview with Weaver, who not only said she might appear in Ghostbusters 3, but let some story details slip as well. Be warned, these could be BIG spoilers, so if you don’t want to know, stop here. Following the reveal of the poster and first trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, some fans were quick to point out that the new Mario appeared to have a much more taught derriere than his previous iterations. While a lot of focus was on the voice of the character, which is being provided by Chris Pratt, the butt of the joke was provided by the official Twitter account of Sonic the Hedgehog who trolled character by referencing the well-documented issues with the blue speedster’s own design issues....

It’s the end of the line for Splash Mountain, as the ride is offiically closing down at the end of the weekend on Jan. 23. Back in 2020, it was reported that Disneyland and Disney World would be abandoning the Splash Mountain ride. The move came after a social media campaign called for the ride’s removal, as it was based on Disney’s controversial classic film Song of the South. It was argued that the film had themes of racism and wasn’t appropriate to have its own theme park ride, and Disney ultimately agreed, announcing that the ride was in need of a makeover as a result....

We are banning green track suits as costumes for elementary school students this Halloween in some parts of the U.S. The signature Squid Game garb along with its traditional schoolyard games played in the series is causing a ruckus for the K though 6th grade demographic, it seems. Principals and superintendents are preemptively relaying the rules to parents, and suggesting that they encourage their children to refrain from mimicking the show on the playground....

Netflix’s supernatural thriller, Stranger Things returns to Halloween Horror Nights 2019 at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort, debuting all-new mazes inspired by seasons 2 and 3 of the critically-acclaimed series. This year’s chilling mazes pick up where last year’s mazes left off, continuing the suspenseful storyline where a predatory entity terrorizes the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, and delving even further into the parallel universe, referred to as the Upside Down....

CLINT TO SCREENWRITERS: MAKE MY PLAY Clint Eastwood has indicated that reports about his retirement from acting have been greatly exaggerated. “You know, you kind of muse out loud sometimes in front of a journalist, and they kind of put it down as an absolute,” Eastwood said as he promoted his latest film Gran Torino on the syndicated Lyons & Bailes Reel Talk, due to air next weekend. “I’m just saying that I’m getting at the point in life at my age where they just don’t write that many good roles,” he added....

STUDIOS TO NETFLIX’S ONLINE SERVICE: NO NEW FILMS FOR YOU The major studios have balked at allowing Netflix to include their latest films on its streaming video service, leaving the online video renter only older titles and documentaries to offer subscribers, Investor’s Business Dailyreported Thursday. Netflix does not charge for the streaming video service, including it in its subscription plan, which begins at $8.99 per month. Although it has a library of 100,000 movies, only 12,000 titles can be seen via its streaming service....

RATINGS SINK FOR DROWNED ALIVE! SPECIALMagician David Blaine didn’t drown on national television Monday night, but that couldn’t be said about the ratings for his two-hour special, Drowned Alive! which saw Blaine finally pulled from an eight-foot tank in which he was submerged for a week in the middle of Lincoln Center in New York. The first hour of the special garnered only a 4.8 rating and a 9 share, tying with the series finale of 7th Heavenfor fourth place....

COURT UPHOLDS FCC’S “FLEETING EXPLETIVES” POLICY In a tight 5-4 ruling that was regarded as a significant setback for broadcast networks and stations, the U.S. Supreme Court today (Tuesday) upheld the FCC’s authority to penalize broadcasters for airing any four-letter word before 10:00 p.m. The court thereby overturned a lower-court ruling that the commission didn’t follow proper procedures in implementing the rule barring “fleeting expletives.” The FCC rule had been challenged by Fox Television Stations and was supported by all the other television networks....

TV REPORTER TO BECOME SURGEON GENERAL President-elect Obama has asked CNN medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta to become the next U.S. surgeon general, the Washington Postreported on its website Tuesday, citing two sources with knowledge of the situation. According to the newspaper, Gupta, who is also a neurosurgeon, a professor at Emory University in Atlanta, and a frequent contributor to the CBS Evening News, has reportedly told the Obama transition team that he wants the job....

The CW’s superhero shows not only bring in countless characters from the DC Comics, but they also offer some slight nods to superhero history. After The Flash was picked up to series, the show cast John Wesley Shipp, who played the original Barry Allen in the 1990 TV series, and they later cast another actor from that original show, Mark Hamill, who reprised his role as The Trickster. The network’s latest addition, Supergirl, which shifted from CBS to The CW this summer, made some headlines of its own when the show cast the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, as the President of the United States, and now we have our first look at the actress on the set, alongside Melissa Benoist....

With just a few weeks left until Supergirl returns for Season 3 on Monday, October 9, The CW has released a brand new trailer, which teases Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) and her “hero’s journey.” It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen any footage, with the last trailer coming during Comic-Con, when The CW confirmed that the new villain this season will be Reign, played by Odette Annable. Aside from the DC Worldkiller, there will be a number of other new characters introduced, although we don’t get to see these characters in the trailer....

Academy Award winning actress Susan Sarandon returns to host MADtv’s Most Wanted on Saturday, October 6 (11:00-Midnight ET/PT) on FOX. Warner Bros. has just announced that it plans to release Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins on May 22nd, 2009, Memorial Day weekend. According to Variety, the sci-fi franchise epic will go against 20th Century Fox and their Ben Stiller sequel Night at the Museum 2: Escape From the Smithsonian. Actor Sam Worthington is in negotiations to co-star in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, though nothing has been officially announced. The storyline for the sci-fi epic is being kept under tight wraps, but plot is part of a planned three-picture arc that begins after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust....
