The most iconic sci-fi television franchise in history returns when Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 arrives on Blu-ray and DVD November 12 from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. “Certified Fresh” by Rotten Tomatoes, all 14 episodes of the CBS series’ latest season appear with brilliant sound and picture across four discs in both the Blu-ray and DVD formats. The Holocrons of Fate marks the villainous return of the former Sith Lord, Maul (Sam Witwer) to Star Wars Rebels Season 3. He blinded Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) in their duel on Malachor over the Sith Holocron. He was last seen escaping the planet in a TIE fighter. We were introduced to Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) in the premiere episode. Now we see that the rebels have to fight the dark side of the force on two fronts: the Sith-led Empire and the renegade Maul....

The critically-acclaimed animated series Star Wars Rebels returns Saturday, September 24 (8:30-9:30 p.m. EDT), and introduces new characters Grand Admiral Thrawn and Bendu during the season three one-hour premiere event, “Steps into Shadow” on Disney XD. Along with announcing the premiere date, Disney XD has released a new TV spot for Star Wars Rebels. If that wasn’t enough, we also have new photos from this highly-anticipated season. Having established a secret base on Atollon, the Ghost crew, now led by a more powerful Ezra, strengthens the rebel fleet by acquiring new resources and recruits eager to stand against the Empire....

A new lawsuit is claiming copyright infringement against Stranger Things. Netflix, as well as creators Ross and Matt Duffer, aka the Duffer Brothers, are being sued by Irish Rover Entertainment. The company claims that the idea for the hit sci-fi series was stolen from a screenplay for an unproduced movie titled Totem. The script in question was written by Jeffrey Kennedy. Per the lawsuit, which was filed in California, plot, sequence, characters, theme, dialogue, mood, setting and even concept art was copied from Totem....

The Streets of Rage movie is moving forward after finding its studio. Back in April, we reported that a feature film based on the video game series of the same name was in the works with a screenplay written by Derek Kolstad, creator of the John Wick franchise. Now, Variety reports that Lionsgate has acquired the rights to the film, looking to give Streets of Rage a theatrical release. Kolstad is also on board to produce the movie, and as he notes in a statement, the project is a dream come true for the lifelong gamer....

NEWS EXECS PLAN FOR A FUNERAL AND AN EXECUTION Broadcast news executives were thrashing out plans for final coverage of the deaths of two former world leaders – the funeral of Gerald Ford and the impending execution of Saddam Hussein. Coverage of the Ford funeral was due to begin on Saturday with the arrival of the casket at the Capitol Rotunda. All three network anchors are due to cover the funeral, including NBC’s Brian Williams, ABC’s Charles Gibson and CBS’s Katie Couric....

NBC, VIACOM SWELL JOBLESS LINES Along with Christmas greetings, hundreds of media workers will find pink slips in their mail during the holiday season. NBC Universal and Viacom each announced huge job cuts that together will put 1,350 employees out of work. While the cuts will eventually result in savings of hundreds of millions of dollars, severance fees and other costs will hit the two companies’ fourth-quarter results hard. Viacom said it would reduce its work force by some 7 percent (850 jobs); NBC Universal, 3 percent (500 jobs)....

More DCU news as James Gunn announces that a Supergirl movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, will make part of the first chapter of the rebooted comic book movie franchise. Speaking via social media, Gunn revealed several details of the project, including how it will introduce the character, her relationship with her cousin Superman, and promised that Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will introduce “a very different type of Supergirl.” Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will take inspiration from writer Tom King, who James Gunn says has been instrumental in shaping the DCU so far....

Swiss Army Man is a 2016 film from independent production company A24, telling the story of a man deserted on an island who finds a dead body and makes him his new friend. He discovers that he can manipulate the cadaver as he would a Swiss Army knife, and attempts to use the body to help him escape the island. It is a fantastic and whimsical tale that takes the Chuck & Wilson dynamic from Cast Away to a whole new level....

Telltale Games, the leading independent digital publisher and developer of episodic interactive entertainment, today announced a multi-year, two-title video game development deal with Universal Partnerships & Licensing. Telltale Games has secured the rights to create video games based on two of Universal Pictures’ most popular intellectual properties, Back to The Future and Jurassic Park. The first game released under the agreement will be a Telltale Games “season” based on the successful Back to The Future series of films....

Fox has ordered an additional nine episodes of The Cleveland Show, the No. 1 new scripted series of the fall, bringing the second season of the series to a full 22-episode order, it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company. “While I’m excited about this news, I really can’t wait until next Wednesday to see an all-new Glee,” said Cleveland Brown. The series premiere of The Cleveland Show was FOX’s highest-rated Sunday comedy series debut in over six years among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers....

Director Robert Rodriguez is shopping around Women in Chains!, a violent drama set at a woman’s prison starring his fiancee, Rose McGowan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script was written by Josh Miller and Mark Fortin, and has been sent to a number of networks, including NBC and FX. McGowan is set play one of five chained women at the center of the show, which Rodriguez is expected to direct....
