NBC, CBS IN “GET” WAR; CBS WINS Pilot Chesley Sullenberger may have been hailed for safely landing his Airbus A320 in the Hudson River on January 15, but it is Katie Couric, not her former Todayshow host Matt Lauer, who is receiving kudos for landing the first interview with the pilot. Days after the event, Todayclaimed that it had scored an interview with Sullenberger to air live on January 19, But on that date, Lauer said that the interview with Sullenberger had been postponed until after the National Transportation Safety Board investigated the incident....

SWEEPS SWEPT BY LOW RATINGS It certainly didn’t look like a sweeps week last week as many ordinarily top-rated television shows recorded some of their lowest ratings ever. Even the No. 1 show, American Idol, saw a worrisome drop in audience figures. The Associated Press observed that CBS’s CSI: Miami had its smallest audience ever. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation drew its second smallest audience ever for an original episode. (The smallest audience was recorded a week earlier....

Zack Snyder’s upcoming fantasy adventure Sucker Punch will be released in theaters nationwide on March 25. To coincide with the release, Titan Books is coming out with a hardcover coffee table tome celebrating the artwork in this stylized adventure. Sucker Punch: The Art of the Film, which is written by Zack Snyder, will hit bookshelves everywhere on February 22. First-look photos from the book have just been released. Action films are some of the best entertainment an audience could ask for. With explosions, gun fights, and epic storylines, the action genre normally has the audience focused on the hero of the film. Many times there is a sidekick who helps the hero save the day; however, there are some characters that steal the scenes and capture the audience’s attention. Unlike some supporting characters, who can’t exist outside the hero’s story, some are such well-defined, three-dimensional characters that viewers wonder about their history and life....

Best known for directing Ray, director Taylor Hackford is set to take on another biopic with Merchant of Shanghai. According to Variety, this drama will be based on property magnate and opium dealer Silas Hardoon. The man is responsible for transforming the Shanghai opium trade industry of the 19th century. The film will center on Hardoon, a Jew from Baghdad that migrated to Shanghai to become the kingpin of the opium trade....

Another familiar face has been confirmed for a return in That ’90s Show. Coming to Netflix in January, the series serves as a continuation of the hit sitcom That ’70s Show, now taking place in the 1990s with Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty Forman (Debra Jo Rupp) still living in their empty nest in Point Place, Wisconsin. It was previously revealed that most of the original main cast members are coming back, and now, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, it’s now been revealed that Don Stark also returns as Bob Pinciotti....

The newest horror film from director Scott Derrickson, The Black Phone isn’t necessarily a ‘scary movie’ in the conventional sense of the horror genre. Just as the horrors conveyed in a film like Panic Room is through real life suspense and tension, this film does the same with a hint of the supernatural. It treads a fine line with a plot that is both real to the audience and otherworldly. When a young boy is kidnapped by The Grabber, played by Ethan Hawke, he communicates with the lost spirits of children who were prior victims in order to find a means of escape....

According to the fans who voted in IGN’s poll, The Boys is the best television show of the year. Originally debuting on Prime Video in 2019, The Boys is a superhero satire series developed for the small screen by Eric Kripke. It is based on the original comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, set in a world where the planet’s most powerful superheroes are secretly corrupt with a ragtag gang of vigilantes serving as humanity’s best hope to stop them....

The Conners are sticking around for a while longer at ABC. It has been officially announced that the Roseanne spinoff series has been renewed for its fifth season on the network, guaranteeing Dan and family will be on the air through the 2022-23 season. ABC also renewed fellow comedies Home Economics and The Wonder Years while dramas Big Sky and A Million Little Things were also given renewal orders. Ratings for The Conners are far from they were in the first season, though the show remains the second-highest Wednesday comedy just behind The Goldbergs, which was also renewed....

MGM is in negotiations with Brazilian director José Padilha to helm their reboot of RoboCop. We reported just a few weeks back that RoboCop was among the several projects MGM is moving forward with, now that they have emerged from bankruptcy. Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky had previously been attached to direct the reboot, before the studio shelved all of their projects due to their bankruptcy proceedings. However, after Darren Aronofsky took on The Wolverine directing job, he became unavailable since MGM wants to make this their first major project under the new studio leadership....

Roseanne fans won’t have to wait until the premiere of The Conners to find out how Roseanne Barr’s iconic TV mom passes away. The comedian has let the cat out of the bag, revealing Roseanne Conner’s fate in a new interview. And it was already set up in the revival earlier this year. Roseanne Conner was ready for knee surgery at the end of the Roseanne revival’s short run. She had become addicted to pain killers, and it was a running theme in earlier episodes....

Actor Ryan Gosling is reportedly in negotiations for George Clooney’s new directorial effort, Farragut North, according to Deadline New York. Ryan Gosling is set to portray a young, idealistic communications manager for a rising political star who is running for President. He finds himself the victim of dirty politics at the hands of his more experienced and savvy rivals. We reported last month that Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti had both joined the cast of the movie, although they weren’t mentioned in this new story....

Can you just talk about what we can expect this season in general? Sarah Shahi: This year the goal kind of was to make Kate uncomfortable actually. We’re going to take away her security blankets. The things that she thought that she could rely on the most. You know, like Justin for example. Something kind of big is going to happen there. There’s a big reveal in the first episode. It kind of colors the rest of the season for their relationship....

It seems that another installment to the hit horror franchise Scream is in the works… maybe. According to iF Magazine, Jamie Kennedy, who appeared in the first two films, revealed that a fourth Scream film is coming together. “I actually had a conversation with somebody very big in the organization, and there’s a way,” Kennedy said. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but they have plans for a lot of things....

The first reactions to Scream (or Scream 5, if you prefer) are in, and it sounds like we may have a worthy legacy sequel on our hands. The long-awaited fifth installment in the hugely popular horror franchise comes just over a decade after the last movie and will throw audiences back into the terrifying world of the slasher killer known as Ghostface. “Scream freakin’ slays!” says one reaction from someone lucky enough to have started their year with a healthy dose of horror....

Boondock Saints star Sean Patrick Flanery is joining the cast of CBS’ longtime soap opera The Young and the Restless. Executive producer Maria Bell confirmed the casting news. It isn’t clear how long his arc will run for, although the actor will portray Sam, a “country veterinarian”, in the daytime drama. His episodes will start to air in mid-April. Sean Patrick Flanery will primarily share his scenes with Sharon Case in the show....

After 2 1/2 years of negotiations, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has inked a new mega overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV that would make him the highest-paid TV writer-producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pact, which could be worth more than $100 million, will keep MacFarlane at 20th TV through 2012. It covers his services on Family Guy and his other two animated series for 20th TV and Fox – American Dad!...
