STRIKE THREAT KEEPS LOSERS ON AIR The increasing probability that a strike by the Writers Guild of America against the major TV and film studios will occur next month has redounded to the benefit of producers of new television shows that performed below par during their first month on the air, Broadcasting & Cableobserved today (Monday). The trade publication noted that a strike threat has particularly helped such struggling shows as CBS’s Cane,Fox’s K-Ville and ABC’s Big Shots....

Boy, I sure do hate eating my words. Right from the get-go, when it first was announced, I was trashing this flick, even when it-nerd Jon Heder signed on. I just thought it sounded pretty stupid, Spade and Schnieder haven’t done anything substantial in years (or ever?) and the fact that “Adam Sandler Regular” Allan Covert co-wrote it wasn’t doing the flick any favors, in my eyes. Still, as much as I hate to admit it, I was wrong....

Yahoo! Movies! has premiered the first full-length trailer for the animated sequel Cars 2, which will be released in theaters nationwide on May 24, 2011. We haven’t seen the last of Shang-Chi. Destin Daniel Cretton, who co-wrote and directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has just inked an exclusive multi-year overall deal with the Disney-owned Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective. Part of this deal includes an unnamed new MCU series for Disney+, and the deal also makes it official that Cretton will write and direct the Shang-Chi sequel. The deal also allows for Cretton to develop TV projects for both Disney+ and Hulu....

Kiefer Sutherland, Gérard Depardieu, Til Schweiger, Thomas Jane, Johnny Hallyday, Jon Lovitz and Eric Cantona, will star in Sleight of Hand, it was announced today by Producer Richard Rionda Del Castro; whose Hannibal Classics will begin selling the film this week at Cannes. Also producing will be Gilles Thompson from Acteurs, Auteurs, Associes (AAA). Brad Mirman will direct the star-studded action comedy. Patricia Eberle will serve as executive producer. The film will shoot the end of July through mid-September....

Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, the stars of Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, have recently filed a lawsuit in Santa Monica Municipal Court against Paramount over the exploitation distribution of their nude images as legal minors. Pippo Zeffirelli, the son of the film’s director who died in 2019, expressed skepticism over the timing of the lawsuit in a statement to The Guardian: The director’s son continued to say the love scene shown in the film was “far from pornographic” and that his father consistently spoke out against pornography during his film career....
