i>IDOL’S SANJAYA STICKS AROUND Wednesday night’s American Idol results show, which saw the elimination of singer Chris Sligh, while the much belittled Sanjaya Malakar remained out of the bottom rankings, once again dominated the ratings, registering a 17.6 rating and a 27 share. Meanwhile, support for Sanjaya via the website votefortheworst.com appears to be growing, helped by frequent plugging from radio personality Howard Stern. One blogger has gone on a hunger strike to protest against Sanjaya’s continued presence on the show....

Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky is the latest name being mentioned as a contender to direct the upcoming Superman reboot, according to The Los Angeles Times. We reported last week that directors Zack Snyder, Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman and Duncan Jones were at the top of Warner Bros.’ wish list of directors. Producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are overseeing the project for the studio, and our earlier report indicated that the decision on a director will happen in the next few weeks....

A trailer has been released for the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Kevin Heffernan has decided to direct the latest effort by the iconic Broken Lizard comedy troupe. According to Variety, the film is entitled The Slammin’ Salmon. All of the Lizards are set to return. They include Jay Chandrasekhar, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske. The script has yet to be written, but the plot revolves around a former heavyweight boxer turned restaurant owner that pits his wait staff against each other....

As the investigation continues into the tragic death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, an assertion has emerged that someone may have deliberately tampered with the rounds to cause the deadly accident. Late last month, Hutchins was preparing for a scene on the set with Alec Baldwin when the firearm the actor was holding had reportedly discharged a live round. Police are trying to determine how a live round got onto the set and who put it into the gun, and no criminal charges have been filed against anyone at this time....

It was a poorly kept secret that Samuel L. Jackson would be playing the role of Nick Fury in this summer’s Iron Man - or so we thought. Comic Book Resources brought us an update from Wizard World Los Angeles, where Jackson’s cameo role was confirmed, but it was stated that it may not appear in Iron Man. What this means exactly is unsure. It seems possible that the Nick Fury appearance by Jackson may appear in The Incredible Hulk instead, which might help bring some attention to Marvel’s second superhero film of this summer....

Today, Showtime debuted the trailer and poster for its provocative new drama series The Affair, which premieres on Sunday, October 12th at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The highly-anticipated series stars Golden Globe nominees Dominic West (The Wire) and Ruth Wilson (Luther), as well as Emmy nominee Maura Tierney (ER) and SAG Award nominee Joshua Jackson (Fringe). Currently in production on ten episodes in and around Long Island, New York, The Affair is the exploration of two marriages and the emotional and psychological effects of the affair that disrupts them....

The Simpsons is now officially the longest-running scripted series in television history. In its 29th season, The Simpsons has finally taken over Gunsmoke, the previous record holder, which ran for a grand total of 635 episodes. With Sunday’s latest episode, Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa and Maggie made it to 636. It’s a record that the show may very well hold forever, considering that they still may have a long way to go before it’s all over....

Saturday Night Live returns December 6 with James Franco making his third appearance as host. Franco will next be seen alongside Seth Rogen in the feature film The Interview, in theaters December 25. Nicki Minaj returns for her second time as musical guest. Minaj’s third album “The Pinkprint,” due out December 15, has already spun Billboard hits including “Anaconda.” Minaj has sold over 4 million albums and 20 million singles worldwide....

You can bring home the latest season of one of the FX Network’s biggest hits on DVD and Blu-ray at the end of August. Sons of Anarchy: Season Two will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 31. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and NBC Universal today announced that movies from Universal Studios Home Entertainment and television programs from NBC Universal will be available for purchase on PlayStation Network, which is accessible for download via PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PSP (PlayStation Portable) systems in the United States. Today’s announcement makes PlayStation Network a premiere platform to access content from every major motion picture studio. New movie download releases, such as the irreverent hit comedy Role Models and the Academy Award-winning movie Milk, will be available beginning today for download to own....

Chris Hemsworth is certainly having a wonderful summer. Ahead of the release of the guaranteed blockbuster Thor: Love and Thunder, the actor first appears on the small screen as the star of the new Netflix movie Spiderhead. The film debuted on the streamer on June 17, and Netflix subscribers were right there waiting, as Spiderhead quickly dethroned Adam Sandler’s Hustle to become the No. 1 most-watched movie in the top 10 list....

Good ol’ Sputnik Monroe. He was a white professional wrestler that helped integrate the sport all throughout the South in the 1950s. According to Variety, HBO found his life story so fascinating that they have decided to base a biopic on the subject matter. The story will focus on Monroe’s life as a civil-rights activist. Throughout his profession, he was known as “the man you love to hate.” Sputnik became the most popular wrestler in Memphis, and he used that notoriety to become a champion of the civil-rights movement....
