NO DEAL AS AFTRA, AMPTP TALK OVER WEEKEND The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers continued bargaining talks over the weekend but were unable to resolve their differences by Sunday night. Although negotiators have agreed to a news blackout, trade reporters said that the talks have stalled over the issue of whether studios and networks should be required to seek permission from actors before clips of their performances are posted on the Internet....

Director Terrence Malick has reportedly chosen the female lead for his latest mystery project, although, in true Terrence Malick tradition, we’re not sure who it is yet. We first reported on this movie last month, when Christian Bale signed on as the male lead. That report also listed a number of potential leading ladies, such as Rooney Mara, Haley Bennett, Clémence Poésy, and Mia Wasikowska. Earlier today, reports surfaced indicating that Haley Bennett landed the role, although insiders claim that another actress may still win the part....

Superhero team The Authority will play a major part in the DCU, with James Gunn promising a “very different kind of superhero story.” Revealed alongside the rest of Chapter 1 of Gunn and producer Peter Safran’s plans for the franchise, The Authority will follow the release of the Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy, and introduce audiences to this somewhat obscure set of supers. As well as being a passion project for Gunn, The Authority will be much more complex than just good guys versus bad guys, with the filmmaker and now co-CEO of DC Studios explaining via social media how The Authority will lean much further into the gray areas that come with being a superhero....

Director Joss Whedon was recently in Australia and spoke with The Herald Sun (via Moviehole), where he revealed more on his upcoming superhero epic The Avengers. While he said that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow would be the only female Avenger in this first film, there will be other female characters important to the storyline, which could possibly mean that Gwyneth Paltrow will reprise her role of Pepper Potts from Iron Man and Iron Man 2....

Henry Cavill will not be returning as Superman, and we are all as heartbroken as you. James Gunn announced late Wednesday night that Cavill would not be playing Superman in DC Studios’ upcoming Superman project. This news adds to what’s becoming a long string of drastic changes Gunn is making to the DCU. Naturally, Cavill’s fans reacted harshly to the cancelation. Thankfully, Cavill will remain part of the DC universe by playing a different role....

Jerry Seinfeld has been accused of selling a bogus Porsche for $1.54 million and is being sued. Seinfeld is a car enthusiast and it’s believed that he owns over 150 of them. Specifically, the comedian has a fondness for Porsches and he owns several, but according to Fica Frio Ltd, the 1958 Porsche Carrera Speedster that Seinfeld sold to them at auction is “not authentic.” Fica Frio has now brought forth a lawsuit, alleging that the “356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster from the Jerry Seinfeld Collection,” is a fake....

Street Fighter is a series of fighting games that have been around since 1987, even longer than its contemporaries like Mortal Kombat, whose first release was in 1992, and Tekken, whose first release was in 1994. Despite this, the series has never seen a successful live-action adaptation, and no worthwhile attempt has been made to make one after the disastrous 1994 attempt starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia. Other attempts have been made since, such as 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and the short-lived 2014 British web series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, but neither were particularly noteworthy, especially since Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is not only universally hated by fans, but is almost universally regarded as one of the worst movies of all time....

CBS All Access, CBS’ digital subscription video on-demand and live streaming service, today announced James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young and Henry Zaga have joined the cast of its original limited event series The Stand, based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel of the same name, and Stephen King will write the last chapter of the series, providing a new coda that won’t be found in the book. The announcements were made by Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President of Original Content for CBS All Access, during the service’s biannual Television Critics Association presentation....
