There were many factors about Solo: A Star Wars Story that failed to connect with audiences and critics, but would an appearance by Boba Fett have helped the highly criticized Star Wars prequel movie? It seems that could have been a possibility if the writers had been allowed to use the character, but according to Jonathan Kasdan, co-writer of the 2018 movie, the character was “off limits” to them. While we are about to see Boba Fett get his own spin-off series in The Book of Boba Fett which makes it’s Disney+ debut this week, it is clear that the fan-favorite could have made a return to the franchise much earlier....

Star Trek: Picard started its second season on uneven footing with a retread time-traveling storyline. The show found its stride mid-season with several twists that added intrigue. Insert sigh here. I am bitterly disappointed to report that the season ends with a thud. Questions are never answered. An important canon character is completely forgotten. We get another inexplicable Star Trek: The Next Generation cameo. The crew of the La Sirena saves the galaxy while predictably splitting up....

DIRECTV GIVES LIFE TO CANCELED SHOWS DirecTV is planning to rescue at least three more critically well-received shows that were ditched by their networks after only a few episodes aired. The three are Smith, which originally aired on CBS in 2006, The Nine, which aired on ABC in 2006, and Eyes, which aired on ABC in 2005. “We’re trying to see if there’s high-quality content … that we can associate with our brand that just gives people another reason to come to DirecTV and to not ever leave DirecTV,” Eric Shanks, head of entertainment at DirecTV, told today’s (Tuesday) New York Daily News....

David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad, previously stated that the studio interfered with his cut of the film and that his version is better. He recently doubled down on these comments in a tweet, saying that the movie was “fundamentally changed” and that his cut is “vastly better.” This statement comes after the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery was completed, resulting in a major overhaul of the company. As part of this overhaul, a number of films and TV shows were canceled to save money and reduce taxes....

The Good This film is like a 2005 version of the dirt bike opus RAD. The Bad It is very apparent that the actors in this movie are not doing much of the actual motocross riding. KC (Steve Howey) and Trip (Mike Vogel) Carlyle play two motocross riders who have differing views about their sport. KC is more refined while Trip flies by the seat of his pants. These two brothers are further separated when KC gets a “factory” sponsorship and Trip is forced to be a privateer....

Director Richard Martin has crafted an interesting account of the life of his friend Steve McQueen in his documentary, Steve McQueen: An American Rebel. While certainly reverential in it’s tone, this documentary doesn’t hold back from examining the entire persona of just who McQueen was. At once a commanding performer who could take on an array of movie roles, at the same time he was also a reform school boy who wasn’t above some of the petty games of Hollywood....

Talk of numerous different Zorro reboots has been circulating for several years now, and all seem to be still moving along slowly. That 70’s Show actor Wilmer Valderrama is heading up the work on one of these projects, which will be made for Disney+ and based on Disney’s own Zorro TV show. The network comes down with word that it has renewed The Conners for a second season after the comedy brought in solid ratings for its first run. The show is of course a spinoff of Roseanne. The spinoff is among the top five new series of 2018-19 in both adults 18-49 and total viewers, so it came as no surprise that ABC re-upped on some more episodes.
