This will be Zack Snyder’s first completely original film and he has described it as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns, dragons, B-25 bombers and brothels.” That sounds pretty good to us! A shot is being called on the set of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s latest thrill-ride action bonanza. The two directors responsible for Crank have cooked up an all new movie starring 300’s Gerard Butler, and it looks like it will be as unique and fun as their first cult outing. The untitled project is set seven years in the future, a time when prisoners are implemented with brain microchips and played like a computer game....
Showtime is getting sketchy… sketch comedy, that is. According to Zap2It, the network has signed Tracy Ullman for her new show, Tracy Ullman’s State of the Union. The show will premiere on Sunday March 30 at 10 PM ET, right after the second season debut of The Tudors at 9 PM ET. The series will only be a limited run of five episodes, and will feature Ullman performing as a variety of different characters about a day in the life of America....
We all know that, at the conclusion of Smallville, Clark Kent must become Superman. We know that he and Lex become mortal enemies. We know that Jimmy and Lois must survive and still work at the Daily Planet. And yet, despite all of these things that we “know”, the creators of the show sure do a great job keeping us in suspense. When Season Seven ended, Lana was gone (presumably for good), as were Kara and Braniac....
Spike TV is about to raise the blag sail on a new series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has ordered a brand reality series entitled Pirate Hunters: USN, which will follow the United States Navy as it searches out pirates off the African coast. The Navy has allowed the production by 44 Blue to take place on two of its warships, the USS San Antonio and the USS Boxer as they search the Gulf of Aden for pirates who hijack commercial ships....
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds heralds a return to Gene Roddenberry’s original vision. The Star Trek: Discovery spin-off has Captain Pike (Anson Mount) leading the Enterprise to encounter new life forms and “boldly go where no one has gone before.” The self-titled premiere episode opens with a first contact scenario going wrong. Pike is forced to return to duty for a rescue mission. We see iconic characters in their youth learning from a troubled but admirable man....

West Side Story helmer Steven Spielberg has found himself at the subject of some controversy on social media. Recently, Spielberg appeared at the PGA Awards, where he spoke about the popular Netflix series Squid Game. The world-famous director applauded Netflix for casting the South Korean show with “unknown” actors rather than going back to the well with some of the more well-known names in Hollywood. Spielberg also noted how casting Squid Game this way helped change the game moving forward by proving that a film or series can be a big success without widely-known actors in lead roles....
There will be only one more season to look forward to for Stranger Things fans after season 4 arrives this week, but the franchise could very well live on past the fifth and final season. As it stands, there are no immediate plans at Netflix to develop any spinoff movies or shows set in the world of Stranger Things. For now, the focus seems to be on getting season 5 finished in a way that concludes the main story in the most satisfying way possible....

TIME WARNER’S CABLE NETWORKS SOAR Time Warner’s cable-TV networks posted strong results in the company’s second quarter with an 11 percent boost in advertising revenue overall and ratings up a whopping 33 percent at TBS and 8 percent at TNT. In a conference call with analysts, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes credited TNT’s original programming strategy for its ratings rise. While Time Warner does not own a broadcast network, Bewkes said that he regards Time Warner’s entertainment networks as “broadcast substitutes, and this position has increasingly resonated with advertisers as we’ve continued to enhance our brands....
