The Rogue One Prequel series centered on Cassian Andor has found its writer/director. Tony Gilroy, who served as a co-writer on Rogue One, has been tapped by Disney and Lucasfilm to write the pilot for the series, in addition to directing several episodes. Gilroy joins a creative team for the Star Wars show that also includes Stephen Schiff, who is set to serve as showrunner. According to a new report, Tony Gilroy is said to be directing multiple episodes and will be working closely alongside Stephen Schiff during the currently untitled show’s development....

This month will see the release of Clerks III, the third installment of the film series that launched Kevin Smith’s movie career. While the film will be bringing back original Clerks stars Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson, key favorites from Clerks II are also returning, such as Rosario Dawson as Becky. In the second movie, Becky served as the love interest of O’Halloran’s Dante, and she was pregnant with his child when we last saw the character....

Right now, it almost seems unthinkable to have an American Horror Story season without the involvement of Sarah Paulson, as she has played a role in all but the 9th season, but there is one season that the actress wishes she had skipped. Despite returning again and again to the series, Paulson revealed that she really didn’t connect with her character in season 6, Roanoke, and she regrets appearing in it at all....

Actor/filmmaker Sean Penn is eyeing a return to the director’s chair, entering negotiations to direct Crazy for the Storm at Warner Bros. He only plans to direct, not star in the drama. SEGA of America Inc., SEGA Europe Ltd. and Marvel Entertainment, Inc. announced that they have entered into a worldwide licensing agreement whereby SEGA has secured the exclusive rights to develop and distribute video game titles for all platforms based on Marvel’s renowned Iron Man property. Under the multi-year agreement, SEGA has been granted the exclusive interactive rights to develop and distribute games based on both Marvel’s Iron Man feature films and the classic comic book iterations of the character....

The highly acclaimed series Snowpiercer, inspired by the 2013 film of the same name directed by Bong Joon-ho, has recently been met with disappointing news. TNT, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery, has announced that the fourth season of Snowpiercer will not be aired, making it the final scripted original series to be featured on the network. The cancelation of the fourth season came as a surprise, as the show had already been renewed for another season....

Spike TV announces today a new, distinctive slate of non-scripted original pilots covering a broad spectrum of themes including action, comedy, and factual entertainment, from some of the most successful producers in television and film. Building upon the successful Stargate franchise, SCI FI Channel today announced it has greenlit a two-hour movie based on the hit science fiction adventure series Stargate: Atlantis. SCI FI will have the exclusive worldwide television premiere of the yet to be titled Stargate: Atlantis film, which will then be released on DVD by MGM. The movie will be written by Stargate: Atlantis’ executive producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, who also serve as series showrunners....

Known as one of the best wrestling superstars of all time, WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin will soon have his very own talk show. Set to air on Aug. 12 on the USA network, the series will be called Straight Up Steve Austin. The freshman season will begin with seven episodes, and the show will presumably go beyond that if the show proves to be a success. On the show, Austin will go on adventures and have special interviews with a variety of celebrities, including athletes, artists, and comedians....

LAST-PLACE NBC COMES FROM BEHIND TO PUMMEL RIVALS If a week had ten days, all of the top ten television shows last week would have been Summer Olympics telecasts. Even the other three programs that made it into the top ten attracted fewer than 25 percent of the viewers who tuned in to the Olympics telecasts. ANOTHER BIG DEAL During a holiday week loaded with so many reruns that it looked like a week in summer, live game shows, football, and the Kennedy Center Honors rose to top positions in the weekly Nielsen ratings. CBS SWEEPS NIELSEN’S TOP TEN CBS last week completely swept Nielsen Research’s top-ten ratings list as the summer season officially began. NCIS, the long-running CBS drama that has regularly posted strong ratings despite airing opposite Fox’s American Idol on Tuesday nights, finally landed in first place. It drew 12.5 million viewers, edging out the 2008-09 season’s only new hit, CBS’s The Mentalist, which attracted 12.4 million. FALLON FAILIN’ ON LATE NIGHT? Jimmy Fallon’s first go-round as host of CBS’s Late Night delivered solid ratings Monday night/Tuesday morning. The show posted a 2.3 rating and an 8 share, up about 35 percent from the average rating when it was hosted by Conan O’Brien. Much of the success, however, was attributed to the curiosity factor.
