MOVIE REVIEWS: FRACTURE The name of the character may be Ted Crawford, but Anthony Hopkins is really back playing Hannibal Lecter again in Fracture, many critics suggest. “There’s that same hissing arrogance, that same cunning squint, the same dare to all listeners: Catch me if you can,” writes Michael Booth in the Denver Post.That’s not necessarily a bad thing, some critics indicate. And (together with costar Ryan Gosling), Hopkins is garnering some of his most laudatory reviews since Silence of the Lambs....

AFTRA PROTESTS PENTAGON PROFILES OF REPORTERS The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has added its voice to those of other groups who have blasted the Pentagon’s reported decision to hire the Washington PR firm The Rendon Group to vet journalists seeking to be embedded with U.S. forces in Afghanistan. “If the military pre-approves only certain journalists to report a specific point-of-view or agenda, our decisions cannot be made independently or freely and that threatens our democracy....

PINK SLIPS KEEP FLYING The prospect of significant downsizing of staff at most major media companies became apparent over the weekend as NBC and CBS announced plans for significant budget reductions in 2009. NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker sent a memo to staff announcing plans to reduce spending by some $500 million across the company, citing “the decline in consumer confidence and spending.” CBS said that it was cutting 30 persons from its CBS Television Distribution, the company’s syndication division, immediately, with other layoffs expected to be announced by the end of the month....

Well-renowned comedy director and Superbad producer Judd Apatow has revealed plans for a proposed sequel. A sequel that sadly was ultimately scrapped. Speaking on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Apatow revealed that Superbad 2 would have followed Michael Cera’s Evan to college, with the foul-mouthed, lovable slacker, Jonah Hill’s Seth, suddenly showing up and no doubt bringing all manner of chaos to Evan’s new life. Directed by Greg Mottola and produced by Judd Apatow, Superbad stars Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as Seth and Evan, two teenagers about to graduate high school....

The Batman is set to bring one of the darkest iterations of the classic villain the Riddler to life on screen, and star Paul Dano revealed that the quizzical villain has been giving him sleepless nights. Like other actors who have taken on evil villainous roles, the intensity of the character appears to have taken a toll on Dano, which can only lead to good things on screen, but for a while, it did mean the actor was unable to quite let go of the character after the cameras stopped rolling....

You can bring home the latest season of one of the hottest shows on TV on both DVD and Blu-ray this September. The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Third Season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on September 14. The four-disc set will be priced at $44.98 SRP, the two-disc BD set will be priced at $54.97 SRP and both sets will contain all 23 episodes of the season. The world of The Boys will expand even further with an all-new animated series spinoff in the works. Dubbed Diabolical, the spinoff will consist of eight episodes, each one telling a different story set in the show’s cinematic universe with a different creator at the helm. The title was revealed in an announcement video for the series straight from Prime Video featuring series star Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) personally delivering the news....

He adds this. “Oh man, no one is ready for Season 2. It’s just absolutely bonkers. I’ll just put it this way, the scale is a lot bigger. I think we’ve topped season one, in terms of insane moments that make you say ‘What the hell?’ I’ve done things this season that are definite firsts for me in my career, and I probably won’t do them again since. Definitely a moment… I can’t give it away, but when you see it, you’ll know what I’m talking about....

There is plenty to suggest that The Batman is not going to be a bright and happy affair, and Robert Pattinson has doubled down on the idea of a dark time coming for the Dark Knight in the Matt Reeves movie. Speaking as part of an interview with Scotland’s The Daily Record, Pattinson said that fans shouldn’t expect his iteration of the Gotham protector to be “a straight-up hero.” The Batman is just over a month and half away, and it is holding strong as one of the most anticipated movies of the year....

ABC rolled out its highly-anticipated Roseanne revival with a special one-hour, two-episode premiere, that easily become the highest-rated debut of the 2017-2018 TV season. The first episode earned an incredible 4.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic while pulling in 17.7 million viewers overall, while the second episode improved to a 5.3 rating in the 18-49 and 18.6 million viewers overall. When averaged together, the premiere earned a 5.1 18-49 rating and 18....

The Proposal stars Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock will reunite to lead the voice cast of And Then There Was Gordon, an animated pilot for Fox. Ryan Reynolds will co-write the pilot script along with Allan Loeb. They both recently launched their own TV production company entitled DarkFire. Sandra Bullock is in talks to voice the female lead role, as well as executive produce. The story centers on an average child who is surrounded by his brilliant child prodigy siblings and their eccentric mother (Sandra Bullock)....

Steve Urkel is locked and loaded as he roams the streets of Chicago in a Saturday Night Live parody of Family Matters. Inspired by Peacock’s Bel-Air, a reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air with a much darker and more dramatic tone, the SNL sketch features Chris Redd taking on the role of a much meaner Urkel. While hilarious, the parody goes to show that Family Matters probably wouldn’t translate quite as well a Bel-Air to this new tone....

Following the first Marvel’s Spider-Man trailer that debuted in January, Marvel and Disney XD have unveiled the first clip and poster for this highly-anticipated animated series. As of now, the cable network has not announced a specific premiere date, or revealed any members of the voice cast, but that may happen sooner rather than later. If that wasn’t enough, we also have the first poster, which features both sides of Peter Parker’s double life as an ordinary kid and a powerful superhero....
