It seems that a long-awaited sequel might be moving forward, but without the original studio. IESB.net is reporting that The Weinstein Company and their genre arm Dimension Films have let the rights to Sin City 2 expire. Here’s an excerpt from their article. Chris Miller, the Oscar-nominated director of 2011’s Puss in Boots, is set to direct the latest Smurfs animated feature film. The movie comes from Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. Although we don’t know the official title for the film, the upcoming movie is reportedly a musical, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This musical will be the first in a series of projects for Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation, who announced a partnership earlier this year with Smurf worldwide license holders LAFIG Belgium and IMPS....

Dark Horse and Universal pictures are combining their forces to release a prequel comic for the upcoming Hellboy II: The Golden Army. The Hellboy: The Golden Army comic will make appearances at major conventions throughout 2008, beginning with February’s WonderCon, but you can get a look at the first five pages of the comic now if you CLICK HERE The 16-page comic will tell the story of the Golden Army, the central threat faced by Hellboy and the BPRD in the film....

You’ll be able to purchase your Sony DVD’s in a totally different way, in the near future. According to a story from Home Media Magazine, Sony is the first major movie studio to sign up with Hewlett-Packard’s revolutionary manufactured-on-demand (MOD) DVD program. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but there will be anywhere between 75 and 200 catalog titles from Sony that will be available with this service. The MOD service, offered through HP’s Video Merchant Service will allow for a more cost-effective way to produce and distribute DVD’s directly for the consumer, and at a fraction of the cost of traditional production and distribution methods as well....
