Exactly 50 years ago today, on September 8, 1966, the very first episode of Star Trek entitled The Man Trap, aired on NBC. Fans have been celebrating the 50th Anniversary of this iconic franchise all year long, which included special panels at Comic-Con and, of course, the release of the latest movie Star Trek Beyond. Today, as fans around the world wish this franchise a happy golden birthday, a new trailer has surfaced featuring some of the best moments in a half century of Star Trek....

YouTube Red has debuted a new lyric video for the Drum n Bass main title theme that plays at the beginning of each Step Up: High Water episode. This is an extended vocal version that features different cast members dancing. These main titles are created by Atlanta producer Kutt The Check (B.o.B, Travis Porter, Lupe Fiasco, T.I) and written by Jesse Leon McMullen. This video comes a month after the first trailer, as Step Up fans continue the countdown towards this new series, debuting on YouTube Red January 31....

Disney’s Strange World has risen on Disney+ after sinking in theaters. The animated feature film premiered in theaters at the tail end of November, but most filmgoers either didn’t know about its release due to poor marketing, or the film’s premise as told by the trailer just wasn’t exciting enough to get people heading to the theater to see Strange World en masse. In any case, the movie’s box office performance was disastrous, with Disney’s reported losses reaching nearly $150 million....

Strike Back, Cinemax’s explosive hit series, is set to debut the all-new Episode 4 this Friday night, September 9th, at 10:00 pm. This week, Connolly plans to break into a secure facility and keeps most of the plan from Scott (Sullivan Stapleton). He gives Scott the hard drive they stole from the armored car heist that houses the security information, to which Maj. Sinclair (Rhashan Stone) installs a worm that will allow him to remotely hack the system....

A GAY OLD TIME AT THIS WEEKEND’S BOX OFFICE This weekend will reveal whether the massive promotional campaign for Sacha Baron-Cohen’s Brünowill pay off at the box office. Few media observers can recall any other recent film receiving so much media attention before its release, largely due to inventive P.R. stunts featuring Baron-Cohen as his Austrian “fashionista” character. While several analysts are predicting that it should rake in as much as $40 million, others put the figure much lower and predict that it will be beaten by last weekend’s two top films, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallenand Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs....

i>FLUSHED AWAY: NO FEAT OF CLAY Although numerous reports have referred to the upcoming Flushed Awayfrom Aardman Features as a “claymation” movie – that is, one using Plasticene figures and stop-frame photography like the company’s previous Chicken Runand Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit –it now turns out that the characters in the feature were all created with computers. Today’s (Thursday) Los Angeles Timesreported that the filmmakers wanted to keep “the same distinctive design aesthetic” of the original Aardman movies, but that they also wanted to open up the movie (to show the Paris sewer system, for example)....

NATION’S LARGEST MALL TAKES OVER ITS MULTIPLEX The nation’s largest shopping mall, Mall of America in Bloomington MN, is taking over the operation of its 14-screen megaplex from AMC, upgrading its auditoriums to stadium seating with a number of “love seats,” installing 3D digital projectors and new sound systems, and will serve real butter on its popcorn, theSt. Paul Pioneer Press reported today (Wednesday). The theater, which is currently closed for the remodel and which plans to open on Friday, also plans to make several of its auditoriums “VIP/adults only,” and allow patrons to purchase wine and liquor....

TIGHT RACE BETWEEN HEROES AND 24 Fox’s 24took on NBC’s new hit HeroesMonday night in the 9:00 p.m. hour and 24came out ahead in the overnight ratings with a 9.9 rating and a 14 share. But Heroeswas close behind with a 9.2/13, and the final figures could see a reversal in the standings. Moreover, Heroesappeared likely to edge out 24among adults 18-49, the key demographic group so far as advertisers are concerned....

WHERE DID THURSDAY’S AUDIENCE GO? The collapse of Thursday-night ratings became even more obvious this week as every major network except Fox recorded double-digit percentage drops from a year ago. NBC, which once owned the night with its Must See TV lineup, lost the most. It was down 19 percent from the comparable Thursday last year. CBS, which now dominates on Thursday, nevertheless saw a 17-percent drop from last year. ABC fell 16 percent....

Liam Neeson opens a can of whoop-ass on sex traffickers in the riveting action-thriller “Taken”. Neeson stars as retired CIA operative Bryan Mills. Kim wants to spend the summer before her senior year in Paris with a friend. Her father’s against sending the girls abroad alone, but is led to believe they will be staying with adults....

Teri Polo, Sarah Jones, KaDee Strickland and Michael Landes will all star in the dramedy series, The Wedding Planners from David E. Kelley for Fox. The show is about three sisters who run a family wedding-planning business. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Polo will play Jane, the oldest sister, known as the “conservative one.” She is attractive, smart, practical and sensible. Jones will play Sammy, the youngest sister. She is a free spirit, the most romantic of the three....

It seems that director Terry Gilliam is starting up his dream project once again… hopefully with less-disastrous results. According to Empire, Gilliam is working on a rewrite of his The Man Who Killed Don Quixote script. Gilliam was set to film the script he wrote with his partner Tony Grisoni in 2000, but the shoot was shut down after just five days of shooting, due to cast member injuries, a flash flood and the Spanish Air Force intervened....
