IMAX Corporation and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that Columbia Pictures’ Spider-Man 3: The IMAX Experience has grossed more than $20 million worldwide since premiering on May 3, 2007. The picture continued its heroic box office performance by reaching the $20 million milestone faster than any other 2D digitally re-mastered IMAX release, between its opening on May 3 and June 3, 2007. Spider-Man 3 is currently playing on 84 domestic IMAX screens and 34 international IMAX screens, the largest opening in IMAX’s 40-year history....

Most Star Wars fans think Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm was ultimately a good thing, but there were some perceivable downsides. X-MEN ORIGINS MOST PIRATED FILM A pirated workprint of X-Men Origins: Wolverine that became available online last week has already been accessed more than a million times by BitTorrent users, according to the website TorrentFreak. It currently tops The Pirate Bay’s list of the most popular downloads on torrent sites. TorrentFreak indicates that efforts by the film’s distributor, 20th Century Fox, to halt the proliferation of the pirated film have been futile – that no sooner does a torrent site take down a link to a copy of the film in accordance with a notice from the studio than new ones appear....
$80.1 MILLION FOR HARRY – BEFORE WEEKEND BEGINS Warner Bros. banked another $21.93 million in receipts on Thursday for the second day of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’s reign at the box office. The amount was almost identical to the midnight preview take on Wednesday – a day that culminated with a $58.18 million gross, the second-largest Wednesday gross in history behind last year’s The Dark Knight. The film’s two-day total now stands at $80....
TERMINATOR SALVATION’S MIDNIGHT TAKE: $3 MILLION Terminatorcame back to theaters with a vengeance Thursday night, with Warner Bros. reporting that it took in $3 million during midnight screenings. The studio did not indicate how many theaters actually participated in Thursday night’s preview of the latest sequel, Terminator Salvation. The movie is due to open officially in 3,580 theaters tonight (Friday). Also opening tonight is another sequel, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, which has grabbed 4,096 theaters....
IDOL MAY HAVE TWO TALENT CONTESTS NEXT SEASON American Idolwill continue with four judges, despite the departure of Paula Abdul, producers of the show and the Fox network said Thursday. For the time being, they said, Abdul will be replaced by guest judges. They have already lined up singers Katy Perry and Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham. It was not clear whether the guest judges will also be auditioning for a permanent spot on the show....
