Sony Pictures Classics has announced that it has acquired the North and South American rights to award-winning director Sarah Gavron’s (This Little Life) first feature film, Brick Lane. The film is based on the 2003 epic novel by Monica Ali about a Bangladeshi family living in the UK, and explores the British immigrant experience. Brick Lane was short listed for the 2003 Man Booker Prize for Fiction and Monica Ali was named by Granta magazine as one of twenty ‘Best of Young British Novelists’ of the year....
Woody Allen’s new film, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, has been acquired by Sony Pictures Classics for North American theatrical rights. The film stars Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Freida Pinto and Naomi Watts. The company plans a fall release. The opening weekend tally for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek was substantially higher than initial estimates. New Regency’s adaptation of the popular 1970’s TV soap-opera Dallas was set to start shooting in November but has been put on hold as the movie is rebooted, according to Variety. The decision has been made to scrap the movie’s cast with the exception of John Travolta, who’s still set to star as J.R. Ewing.
