Are you a fan of Netflix’s nostalgia series Stranger Things? I am. Well, at least I am now that the second season has come and gone. The first season, I was on the fence about, but the second cleared up all my concerns and worries and now the show is one of my favorites out there. FIREWORKS OVER THE BOX OFFICE The long 4th of July holiday got off to a rousing start as Paramount/DreamWorks’ Transformersopened with $8.8 million with just a single 8:00 p.m. preview screening in about 3,000 theaters Monday, then followed up with $27.45 million on its “official” opening Tuesday – the biggest Tuesday opening in history. “It certainly looks like a great way to start,” DreamWorks spokesman Marvin Levy told the Associated Press....
CANNES WINNERS ANNOUNCED Austrian Director Michael Haneke, who is not unfamiliar with film-festival acclaim, has earned the top Palme d’Or prize at the 62nd annual Cannes Film Festival. His entry, The White Ribbon,had received qualified raves from film critics attending the festival. DVR’S NO THREAT TO ADVERTISING, SAY NETWORKS Attempting to counter concerns by advertisers that users of digital video recorders will bring about the death of traditional commercial broadcasting, top network TV executives released a study Wednesday, which, they said, represented “clear evidence showing that homes with DVRs watch significantly more television, and could increase the average primetime audience for a program by an average of 4 percent.” The study showed that homes with DVRs averaged 5....
NEW MOON SET TO RISE AGAIN Box office fortune tellers, who were bitten badly last week when The Twilight Saga: New Moon drew near-record crowds and nearly double the revenue of many of their forecasts, are sticking their necks out again and predicting that it will take a steep dive over the Thanksgiving Day holiday. SPIELBERG AMBLIN’ ON HOME As was widely predicted, Steven Spielberg is returning to Universal Studios, where he began his career as an unpaid intern in the 1960s (after first sneaking into the studio by, as he said, “looking important,”). Under a seven-year deal, Universal will distribute movies produced by his DreamWorks company and financed by India’s Reliance entertainment conglomerate. He’ll be joined by DreamWorks’ CEO Stacey Snider, but David Geffen, who reportedly negotiated the deals with Reliance and Universal and the exit from Paramount, will be leaving the company....
FALLON TO REPLACE O’BRIEN ON LATE NIGHT When Late Night’s Conan O’Brien takes over the Tonightshow in 2009, he will most likely be succeeded by former Saturday Night Liveco-star Jimmy Fallon, Broadcasting & Cablereported in its current issue, citing people familiar with the talks between NBC and Fallon representatives. MSNBC REMOVES OLBERMANN, MATTHEWS AS ELECTION ANCHORS In an apparent effort to dispel criticism, some of it internal, that it is attempting to become the news channel of the left, MSNBC is removing Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews as election anchors and replacing them with David Gregory. In an interview with the New York TimesMSNBC President Phil Griffin observed that the channel’s increasing display of so-called advocacy journalism has become “the great philosophical debate” within the media but that “the bottom line is that we’re experiencing incredible success....

The CW’s Supernatural returned from its holiday hiatus last weekend with an episode that served as a backdoor pilot for a potential new spin-off series entitled Wayward Sisters. With that episode now out of the way, the episode many fans are looking forward to the most is the animated Scooby-Doo crossover episode, and now we have the first poster, of sorts, which reveals the episode will be entitled ScoobyNatural. The image was unveiled by executive producer Jim Michaels on Twitter, which is likely the customized cover of the episode’s script, due to the three-hole punch on the left-margin, with the January 22, 2018 date on the poster/cover likely the date of the script table read....
Syfy has released a pair of new trailers for their upcoming drama Dominion, which is scheduled to hit June 19th and is an adaptation of Scott Stewart’s 2010 thriller Legion about the war between angels as it plays out on earth. In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, New Moon director Chris Weitz recently confirmed that Taylor Lautner will return in the film as the werewolf Jacob Black. In the film Twilight, Jacob had a smaller part but it gets beefed up significantly in New Moon. Jacob starts a romantic relationship with the film’s lead actress Bella (Kristen Stewart) in the sequel. Originally, it was thought that Lautner might not look the role of the older and bigger Black....
Not dead yet! The residents of Tender Endings are making a comeback. Collider reports that Adult Swim has renewed the series Teenage Euthanasia for a second season. The mother-daughter-focused series was a success among viewers and earned the show a continuation. Teenage Euthanasia takes place in the near future, where mirrors sell you ads and teachers are holograms. In Florida, there is a funeral parlor called Tender Endings, owned by the Fantasy family....
