Science fiction has been a popular genre for decades, and really lets our imaginations soar. Whether the movie is set on a distant planet or on a spaceship, it’s thrilling to see characters explore the universe, while still showing a human side of things that audiences can relate to. One interesting part of watching sci-fi movies – especially ones from long ago – is seeing how those movies pictured the future, and whether any of their visions have come to pass....

In 1966, Star Trek aired its first episode on NBC. Created by Gene Roddenberry and set in the year 2266, Star Trek followed the crew of Starship Enterprise, who were on a five-year mission to explore strange new worlds, seek out new civilizations, and go where nobody had gone before. While the series only lasted three seasons with 79 episodes airing, Star Trek endured as a piece of pop culture and generated a massive, passionate fanbase in syndication that kept the show going in the public consciousness long after it aired....

Ever since the smash hit debut of 2008’s Iron Man from Marvel Studios, the superhero genre has absolutely overtaken cinemas worldwide. Marvel Studios is currently the head of the pack, with DC and Warner Bros in a close second, along with a variety of other comic book companies creating films based on some of their most popular characters (i.e, Valiant and the Bloodshot movie). The television arena has now been hit with an influx of superhero shows as well, with franchises such as Invincible and The Boys getting some of the best ratings and reviews for superhero shows....

It has been 12 years since directors Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick made indie horror history with The Blair Witch Project in 1999. Eduardo Sánchez is doing press for his new movie, Lovely Molly, and the director recently revealed he and Daniel Myrick still plan on making The Blair Witch Project 3. Here’s what Eduardo Sánchez had to say below, indicating that the ball is currently in Lionsgate’s court. The director also said the sequel will completely disregard Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, the failed 2000 sequel which Eduardo Sánchez and Daniel Myrick executive produced....

Bradley Cooper is in early discussions to star in Relativity Media’s remake of The Crow, which is being directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. The original 1993 movie The Crow starred Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a rock star who is murdered along with his girlfriend, the night before their wedding. One year later, a mysterious crow resurrects Draven to seek vengeance on those responsible for his death. The project seems to be a priority for Relativity Media, having just locked in director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo last week....

Universal Pictures has announced the start of principal photography for the upcoming film Robin Hood. Take a look at the full press release below. Academy Award-winning actors Russell Crowe (Gladiator, American Gangster) and Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Elizabeth: The Golden Age) have begun production on an untitled Robin Hood adventure, the next film from celebrated director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, American Gangster). The epic action-adventure, which reunites Crowe and Scott for their fifth collaboration, will be produced by Oscar-winner Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster), Scott and Crowe....

The fanboy favorite actress talks about her character in the latest DC Animated Movie Dawson, whose voiceover experience was previously limited to a single episode of Robot Chicken, completely immersed herself in the warrior mindset to bring Artemis to animated life. Dawson’s resonating take on the focused, powerful tones and dry, no-nonsense (and thus, unintentional humor) approach of Artemis perfectly complements the work done by the rest of the stellar voice cast, which includes Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Virginia Madsen and Alfred Molina....

On October 11th, Shout Factory is finally releasing all sixty-five episodes of the popular animated series with JEM And The Holograms: The Truly Outrageous Complete Series DVD. This is especially cool, as a lot of the Jem Season 3 episodes have not been seen in a long time. To celebrate this awesome 11-disc set, we caught up with Jerrica herself, voice actress Samantha Newark, to reminisce about the popular series and to find out what lies ahead for this screamingly popular toy and cartoon franchise....

Fans were thrilled with the first pictures of Watchmen’s heroes in their costumes, but how did those costumes come about? Michael Wilkinson, the costume designer for the film, has posted a video diary from the production to JoBlo.com, which was also publicized on the film’s official blog. Watchmen director Zack Snyder provided the following introduction to the video journal: To put it simply, there is an enormous amount of characters that populate the many time periods and environments of the Watchmen world....

The ’90s are currently making a return to popular culture in a big way. Nostalgic influences continually draw back those who experienced the decade firsthand, while younger generations are getting swept up in the clothing, music, and general vibe of the era before the internet. Additionally, the ’90s renaissance has given rise to a slew of television reboots, including The Conners, Will & Grace, and Saved by the Bell. Though several ’90s cartoon reboots are in the works, some animated gems from the golden age of the fanny pack have yet to receive the attention they deserve....

It seems that the fans of one of the CW Network’s longest-running shows might have another season to look forward to. Entertainment Weekly’s Ausiello Files recently spoke with Smallville executive producer Kelly Souders who revealed that they are “pushing” for a 10th season of the popular series. “We are really, really pushing for season 10,” Souders told the site. “We really hope it happens.” While Smallville’s ratings have declined since moving to Friday nights this season, it seems that the drop hasn’t been as bad as originally perceived, and Souders even thinks the numbers can increase....

Bee Movie couldn’t be coming out at a more appropriate time. Honeybees have been vanishing across the country at an alarming rate. It is being called a national tragedy, and experts are stymied over the loss. There is no scientific explanation for it. Little has been made about the condition in the press, but I got a chance to speak exclusively with Bee Movie co-director Simon J. Smith, who hopes that his film will elevate the importance of Bees in our society and shed some much needed light on this ecologically taxing problem....

The follow-up to the surprise hit videogame film managed to score even more positive points from old and new fans of the blue blur! F/X is revving things up for another season of their newest drama. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has ordered a second season of their new series, Sons of Anarchy. 13 episodes have been ordered for the sophomore season and the main acting trio of Ron Perlman, Katey Segal and Charlie Hunnam are on board as well. The show is performing consistently overall, even though the first-run airings of the episodes are receiving modest ratings....

Like many filmmakers trying to break through in Hollywood, writer-director Spencer Susser began his career by making short films. Like many excellent filmmakers, those short films became long films, and Spencer Susser made his feature directorial debut with the fantastic indie Hesher, which hits the shelves on Blu-ray and DVD on September 13....

IGN reports that Sony Pictures is previewing select scenes from Spider-Man 3 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. The site gives a spoiler-filled description of the new footage being presented to attendees of the trade show. You can bring home the second season of an animated hit on both DVD and Blu-ray this September. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Complete Second Season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 26. For any long-term Stephen King fans, a film adaptation of his short story The Boogeyman, which was originally published in book form as part of his Night Shift collection of tales, is something that has been seen to be in development at one time or another for some time. While the short story was made into the 1982 Jeff C. Scherzo movie, a theatrical play and a 27-minute movie in 2010, it was announced in November last year that a feature-length film would be moving ahead at Hulu, and that version now seems to have added Sophie Thatcher and Chris Messina to its cast list according to Deadline....
