While things worked out well enough upon getting cast for a starring role in Avatar, life could have been a lot different for Sam Worthington if he’d have instead landed the role of James Bond. These days, Worthington can be seen back on the big screen in the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water. Like the original film, the movie has been an immense success at the box office, already rising high in the top ten list among the highest-grossing movies of all time....

The Good A quick moving, raw and gritty film that needs to be seen. The Bad I honestly cannot think of anything. Shot on video for less than $500,000, the Secuestro Express is one of the best movies I have ever seen. Yeah, I missed it on it’s limited theatrical run over the summer, but now that it is on DVD I look forward to screening it again and again. Billed on a back cover quote as “City of God meets Goodfellas,” I wasn’t expecting too much from this film....

With just two more days until Christmas, fans of a Seinfeld are celebrating their own holiday. For legions of devotees, December 23 marks the “official” date of Festivus, which was featured on a Season 9 episode of the classic sitcom. Horror and romance don’t necessarily go together. Like water and oil, the two genres seem to repel each other, unable to really mesh together in a way that makes sense. Even if a couple manages to get together and live happily ever after, they’re often just moments away from getting slashed to bits or thrown out a bay window by an unruly spirit. It’s difficult to pull off, but should it be done well, it results in a genuinely compelling story that takes the best from both respective genres....

The show aired a parody trailer that pokes a bit of fun at Avengers: Age of Ultron, showing what a solo Black Widow movie could look like with the trailer Black Widow: Age of Me. The trailer shows Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) as she juggles an internship at Fashion Weekly magazine and a complicated relationship with boyfriend Ultron....

Spike TV is set to bring Blade, one of Hollywood’s most successful theatrical franchises, to television. The Blade trilogy, which has earned more than $400 million worldwide, will be adapted into a two-hour original drama that marks the network’s first foray into scripted entertainment. Produced by New Line Television, Blade premieres on Spike TV in June 2006. “Blade’ is perfectly suited for Spike TV and its male viewers,” says Pancho Mansfield, Executive Vice President, Original Programming at Spike TV....

Steven Soderbergh is set to direct two biopics based on the later years of Che Guevara. Benicio Del Toro will play Guevara, with Javier Bardem, Franka Potente and Benjamin Bratt in talks for other key roles, says Variety. The first film, The Argentine, begins as Che and a band of Cuban exiles (led by Fidel Castro) reach the Cuban shore from Mexico in 1956. Stranger Things has been a massive hit for Netflix, but the show’s journey is coming to an end with season 5. The show, set in the 1980s, follows the adventures of a group of friends and explores the supernatural “Upside Down” and the human experimentation that creates super-powered beings. It has received praise for its nostalgia, storytelling, and performances; however, some critics have raised concerns about the show’s timeline. As the kids in the show grow older with every passing year, it becomes difficult to imagine future seasons....

INDECENT SHOW CAN BE SEEN ON FOES’ WEBSITEAlthough CBS claimed in an FCC filing this week that complaints about an episode of Without a Tracewere invalid because they all came via websites operated by the Parents Television Council and the American Family Association from people who had never seen the show, the scene in question had in fact been posted on the PTC website. UNIVERSAL SIFTS ITS ASHES Last week’s devastating fire at Universal Studios, which destroyed the company’s vault holding thousands of prints of movies and TV shows, may have been more serious than originally believed, Daily Varietyreported today (Thursday). The trade paper noted that while studio executives had stated following the fire that the prints were replaceable since the original negatives were stored elsewhere, striking prints from older films is no simple matter....

LOOK WHO’S WATCHING Viewers who watch TV programs on their computers, video iPods and the like also watch more primetime programs on their TV sets than the average viewers, according to a study by CBS research chief David Poltrack. Poltrack says his studies indicate that digital media presentations often sharpen the desire of people to see the programs on their bigger screens. The studies also found that 56 percent of the TV audience with broadband connections at home are aware that some network programs can be watched on their computers and that 46 percent of them had already viewed at least one program....
