Helen Slater made her return to the Superman mythos, this time playing Kal-El’s Kryptonian mother two episodes back, in the aptly titled “Lara.” Also appearing in that episode of Smallville was Zor-El, father to Clark’s cousin, Kara. The mystery of Kara’s crystal, which contained her instructions from Zor-El, was also explored, with the episode ending with Clark showing Lana that he was now in possession of the crystal. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that we would be seeing Tom Hardy reprising his role of Eddie Brock/Venom again in the not so distant future, and Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that work is already underway on Venom 3. While it would seem that the film is only in the early stages of development, it is likely that Venom’s next outing will be something of a collaborative effort in light of the post-credit reveal that Venom is now part of the MCU, allowing interaction with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, as well as Marvel villains such as the Vulture and Morbius who were questionably in the same universe....
Last week, CBS All Access wrapped up the first half of Star Trek Discovery Season 1, with the show taking a brief hiatus before the second half of the season resumes on Sunday, January 7 at 8:30 PM ET. With Tintin on the backburner ever since Universal declined to provide funding for the project, DreamWorks has now picked up the rights to late author John Wyndham’s science fiction classic Chocky for Steven Spielberg to direct as his next project. MONSTER WEEKEND AT BOX OFFICE Monsters vs. Aliensreanimated the box office over the weekend. After three down weeks, the 3D animated feature helped push total revenue up 54 percent above the same weekend a year ago, as its $59.3 million take accounted for 46 percent of the total weekend gross. Syfy today announced a third season for its original series Defiance, giving a 13-episode order to the action packed drama, and a second season for the epic Supernatural thriller Dominion, which will also consist of 13 episodes. Both series are produced by Universal Cable Productions and are slated to return with all-new episodes in 2015. Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives, Caprica, Hellcats) will resume his role as executive producer and showrunner of Defiance while Vaun Wilmott (Sons of Anarchy) will continue to fill the same posts for Dominion....
It’s a sad day in the music world as Foo Fighter drummer Taylor Hawkins has passed away. A longtime member of the group who’s been performing with the group for more than two decades, Hawkins’ death was announced by the band on Friday, though an apparent cause hasn’t yet been revealed. The musician, who can currently be seen in the band’s new horror film Studio 666, was 50 years old....
