POLANSKI DOC MAKER STUNNED BY D.A.‘S “I LIED” The director of the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired said Thursday that she was “perplexed” by former L.A. Deputy District Attorney David Wells’s admission that he had lied to her during an interview featured in her film. Wells recanted his story that he had held a private meeting with the judge in the case prior to Polanski’s sentencing and urged him not to accept a plea bargain and instead impose a harsher prison sentence on the director for having unlawful sex with a minor....

VERIZON TAKES FIOS TO THE PEOPLE Borrowing a page from Apple’s strategy, Verizon Communications has begun to open Verizon Experience stores at malls in areas where it is introducing its FiOS fiber-optic systems to compete with cable and satellite providers. Scott Bakula wouldn’t mind seeing Quantum Leap get its inevitable reboot but hopes it would maintain the spirit of the original. Between 1989 and 1993, the sci-fi series starred Bakula as Dr. Sam Beckett, a physicist with the ability to “leap” from the mind of one person to another in different time periods to right historical wrongs. Because of its popularity, it seems to be just a matter of time before the hit show gets some kind of reboot or sequel series....

A new featurette has been released for Scream, the fifth installment of the Scream movie series. Partly a reboot and partly a sequel, the idea of the new movie is to relaunch the franchise with some connections to the prior movies. A handful of legacy cast members are featured, but the cast will mostly consist of newcomers, all of which could potentially be revealed as the new Ghostface. Drafthouse Films has released the second poster for The Ambassador, director Mads Brügger’s documentary that was acquired by the studio earlier this month. The filmmaker puts his innovative “performative journalism” style on display, where he disguises himself as a corrupt diplomat in on of the most dangerous places on Earth, the Central African Republic. Take a look at this new 1-sheet featuring the filmmaker in character. Financed by filmmaker Lars Von Trier’s production company Zentropa (Melancholia, Klown) to expose the violence, greed and corruption of foreign businessman in the Central African Republic, Brügger developed a new documentary style that he calls “performative journalism,” in which he creates an absurd caricature of a corrupt diplomat and arms himself with a phalanx of hidden cameras, black-market credentials and razor-sharp wit....

Fans should get ready to enter the Grishaverse, as Netflix has just announced that Shadow and Bone season 2 will be released in March 2023. Based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels, the series follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) as she discovers her power as a Sun Summoner. Then, with the help of her friends, she must use her newfound powers to save her home from destruction. Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy-winning actress-singer Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls) will appear in a multi-episode arc on NBC’s Smash beginning with the second-season premiere when the musical drama returns to the NBC schedule. Hudson will portray Veronica Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). “We’re thrilled to have Jennifer Hudson coming to Smash,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment. “This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that’s a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson....

After much anticipation, Sony has finally revealed the first-look footage of the much-awaited Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel. The upcoming film featuring Miles Morales and his friends from across dimensions will be called Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, according to the teaser trailer. From what the teaser has revealed, fans are in for yet another beautiful Spider-Verse film, with its trademark pop-art/graphic novel visuals. The upcoming film’s Producer Christopher Miller and co-director Kemp Powers had both been teasing the fans on Twitter about a major reveal about the film since Saturday....
