TV DRAMAS STRIKE OUT The recent writers’ strike may have inflicted permanent damage on scripted serialized dramatic shows as audiences lost track of story threads and abandoned them, the New York Timesobserved today (Thursday). The newspaper reported that such shows as ABC’s Grey’s Anatomyand Desperate Housewivesdrew their lowest ratings ever when they returned. CBS’s CSI: Crime Scene Investigation posted its worst ratings since its fall season, and Fox’s Housesaw its audience drop 22 percent from its average before the strike began, the Timesnoted....
AFTRA-AMPTP DEAL REPORTEDLY CLOSE Although trade journals had predicted that a deal between the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists would be struck by today (Friday), AFTRA President Roberta Reardon on Thursday said only that “We’re making progress,” while published reports indicated that the bargaining talks may spill into the weekend. Nevertheless, most observers expressed the conviction that the two sides will reach an agreement within days. They were less certain about whether a similar agreement would be thrashed out between the AMPTP and the Screen Actors Guild....
The CW’s hit drama Supergirl took the stage at the show’s Comic-Con 2018 panel session to reveal that the DC Super Hero series will welcome three new cast members for the upcoming Season 4. The first trailer for new episodes also dropped, giving us a first look at Agent Liberty. The hit show will feature TV’s first transgender superhero in the upcoming season. Transgender activist Nicole Maines will join the show in the series regular role of Nia Nal, aka Dreamer....
Despite there being little official information about her villain character, Susan Sarandon has completed filming for the upcoming role in Warner Bros. Blue Beetle movie. Sharing a post on her Instagram account, Sarandon announced that she has wrapped her role as Victoria Kord, a character that shares a surname with one of the original Blue Beetles, Ted Kord, and seems set to play a big role in the movie. So far, details about the Blue Beetle movie have been pretty scarce, but as the film saw its release moved from being an HBO Max exclusive like Batgirl to getting a theatrical release, it is clear that Warner Bros are expecting big things from the film....
It has been a while since Sylvester Stallone first revealed he was putting together a new cut of Rocky IV and now Rocky vs. Drago - The Ultimate Director’s Cut has arrived along with a brand new documentary about the making of the iconic sporting movie. While there are many interesting pieces of information to be pulled from the documentary, one revelation made by Stallone about his brutal face off with Dolph Lungren is that an injury sustained during their fight almost killed him, but that didn’t prevent Stallone from using the fight in the final cut of the film....
USA Network has ordered 13 one-hour episodes of the Emmy-nominated and critically-acclaimed hit series THE 4400, it was announced today by Jeff Wachtel, USA’s executive vice president, original programming. The series, which has garnered an Emmy nomination, will return to USA Network in summer 2007 with production scheduled to begin in Vancouver in early 2007. THE 4400 premiered on USA as a limited series in July 2004 as the highest-rated and most-watched new series premiere ever on a basic cable network, and still continues to perform as a ratings powerhouse for the network....

Yasujiro Ozu is one of the best Japanese filmmakers to date. His attention to detail and ability to combine heavy topics with light-hearted humor make his works just as enjoyable to audiences today as when they were first released (although we may need to overlook some gender stereotypes present in the culture at his time). Perhaps Samuel L. Jackson could be the next legacy star from the original Jurassic Park to return in a new Jurassic World movie. In the franchise’s first film, released in theaters in 1993, Jackson played the part of Ray Arnold, the chief engineer working on the island.
