INDY MAGNETIZES $311.1 MILLION When the final tally of Memorial Day weekend ticket sales is calculated,Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is expected to wind up with $311.1 million worldwide, with about $151.1 million of that amount coming from the U.S. and Canada, according to Paramount Pictures, its distributor. The movie reportedly got a boost from 30- and 40-year-old moviegoers, a demographic group that is more selective about the films it takes in in than the primary teens and 20-year-olds who make up the primary movie-going audience....

NBC NEWS COURTS NEW DEBATE OVER STING Months before it even hits the air, an NBC News series about alleged genocide perpetrators living in the U.S. is attracting a flurry of controversy. CBS has announced a special three-hour season finale of Survivor season 40. The Winners at War episode will also include a digital reunion with all 20 contestants, which is where host Jeff Probst will announce the winner. Worlds will collide next month when Candice Bergen guest stars on an episode of the ABC comedy series The Conners. Playstation 3 users can now start downloading video content through the gaming console. According to Home Media Magazine, Sony unveiled its new product in Los Angeles on Tuesday and PS3 users can start downloading content through their console. Sony also announced some changes to its Playstation 3 models. Starting in September, the 80GB PS3 will drop to $400, $100 less than currently listed. The current 40GB PS3 which is priced at $400 will be discontinued then as well....

Mandate Pictures announced today that Spike Lee (Inside Man) will direct Oldboy, a remake of the highly-acclaimed South Korean film. Mark Protosevich has adapted the screenplay and will co-produce. Roy Lee and Doug Davison (The Departed, The Grudge) will produce. The film is a Vertigo Entertainment/40 Acres & A Mule Production. Mandate President Nathan Kahane will executive produce. “It’s a great honor to put this special project into the hands of such a gifted writer and iconic director,” said Kahane....

CBS All Access today announced a two-season order for Star Trek: Lower Decks, a new half-hour animated comedy series developed by Emmy Award winner Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty). The series will focus on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships and will be produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions, CBS Television Studios’ new animation arm; Secret Hideout; and Roddenberry Entertainment. Secret Hideout’s Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin and Roddenberry Entertainment’s Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth and Katie Krentz will serve as executive producers alongside McMahan....

NEW MOVIES COMING TO ITUNES Apple announced today that it has reached agreements with 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal, Sony, Lionsgate, and other studios to sell movies via its iTunes online service on the same day that the studios release them on DVD. The company had previously reached a similar agreement with Disney. New titles will sell for $14.99; catalog titles for $9.99. The agreements, coming with so many studios all at once, would appear to thwart threats by major retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy to refuse to stock DVDs from any studio making such a deal with Apple....
