Platinum Dunes has grown famous for revitalizing nearly dead or dying horror franchises, giving our iconic new age monsters a fresh birth. In the recent past, they’ve successfully jump-started The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Friday the 13th, giving both Leatherface and Jason Voorhees a new lease on life. Now, they have their sights set on that most infamous child tormentor Freddy Krueger. That’s right, producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, along with director Samuel Bayer, are working overtime to reestablish Freddy as the scariest slasher on the horror scene with their remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street....

The release of She-Hulk on Disney+ is imminent, arriving on Aug 18. The Marvel comedy series looks to have a different feel than other entries into the MCU, and writer Jessica Gao is making sure the creative team remembers that. The show, starring Tatiana Maslany as the titular character alongside Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Charlie Cox, and Jameela Jamil, will be the first entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to break the fourth-wall....

Based on Live+7 ratings from The Nielsen Company, the fourth season premiere episode of FX’s critically acclaimed hit drama series Sons of Anarchy became the most-watched program in the network’s 17-year history. The first-run telecast of the Season 4 premiere of Sons (9/6/11, 10-11:30 PM) delivered 6.5 million Total Viewers, 4.3 million Adults 18-49 and 2.5 million Men 18-49, which rank as basic cable’s top-drama series telecast in those Adult demos in 2011....

Sony updated its Blu-ray Disc player line today with two new models that will be capable of accessing advanced interactive features such as BonusView and BD-Live. The BDP-S350 and BDP-S550 models both support BonusView (Picture-in-Picture) featured on some of the new Blu-ray Disc theatrical releases. The BDP-S350 model is BD-Live ready featuring an Ethernet port for an easy firmware update and access to Internet-based interactive content features. The BSP-S550 is BonusView and BD-Live capable when it ships....

According to Variety, it looks like The Tourist starring Angelina Jolie will go into production this February. Directing the project will most likely be Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) for Spyglass Entertainment. The studio hopes to release the movie in 2011. Apparently, Jolie would only make this film if the right director was found. Apparently von Donnersmarck was chosen this past Friday. In the film, Jolie is going to be a female Interpol agent who involves an American tourist into her attempt to locate a criminal who used to be her lover....

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) announced it has made current episodes of the hit science fiction/adventure series Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis available for purchase and download from the iTunes Music Store (www.itunes.com). The first five episodes of Stargate SG1 season 10 and the first five episodes of Stargate Atlantis season 3 will be available for download and subsequent episodes for both series will be available within 24 hours after airing on the SCI FI Channel....

Last week we reported that directors Sofia Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Bill Condon have been approached to direct the final installment of a vampire film series, and now one more can be added to that list. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that director Stephen Daldry is the latest director being considered for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. Much like the story last week, there wasn’t any indication that Daldry would end up taking the job, but it seems that Summit Entertainment has reached out to the director....

Apple is getting into the original content game and, though their strategy is going to differ pretty significantly from what Netflix is doing, that doesn’t mean they aren’t going to go after huge projects with big names attached. As such, it has just been announced that Apple is going to produce a reboot of the critically-acclaimed 80s series Amazing Stories. Creator Steven Spielberg is on board as a producer, with Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) aboard the creative team for the series as well....

A significant portion of the Netflix film Blonde focuses on Marilyn Monroe’s relationship with her mother, Gladys Peal Baker, and the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother, including one scene where Baker attempts to drown her daughter when she was a child. The film’s director Andrew Dominik admits to being inspired by Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name, but he also makes clear the story is one entirely of fiction....

Producer Shawn Levy says Stranger Things Season 3 will be the series’ darkest chapter yet: “It would be a mistake for anyone to think that season 3 is the summer of fun and lightness because it’s a whole lot more than that.” Stranger Things Season 2 ended on a series of uplifting high notes. Sure, that devious “Mind Flayer” is still lurking ominously in The Upside Down, but the interdimensional rift has been sealed and Will Buyers can finally live a normal life....

There is a lot to unpack in the newly released trailer for Stranger Things Season 4, not least of which is the reveal of a monstrous new villain and the revelation that Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink) will seemingly gain superpowers. Released via the official Stranger Things YouTube channel, the trailer seemingly confirms that Max will play a much more central role this time around as the gang is once again set on a collision course with the mysteries and monsters of the Upside Down....

Stranger Things season 2 is fast approaching. Netflix absolutely dominated the pop culture conversation last year with their 80s throwback sci-fi series and demand for more episodes is very high. Luckily they were able to get season 2 in production quickly, with more Strangers Things set to arrive just in time for Halloween this year. One burning question fans have is, are we going to get justice for Barb? A brief new Stranger Things season 2 promo hints at that possibly being the case....

LOWEST-RATE WINTER OLYMPICS EVER?As ratings for NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics from Turin, Italy remained substantially below the average that the network had promised advertisers, it appeared virtually certain that the network will be forced to give advertisers “make goods” to compensate for the audience short-fall, analysts said today (Monday). Andy Pappalardo, senior partner for ad buyer Mediaedge:cia told Bloomberg News that he expects the make-good agreements to be triggered because of the underperformance....

MIRACLE AT THE BOX OFFICE As the Flint(MI) Journalput it Monday: “It was the box-office equivalent of a miracle, thanks in part to masses of local church goers.” The newspaper was referring to the success of Fireproof, starring Kirk Cameron, a movie that was produced for just $5 million and received comparatively little advance marketing, played in just 838 theaters, but nevertheless earned $6.8 million in its debut. It became the year’s highest-grossing film playing in under 1,000 theaters and ended up fourth on Media by Numbers’ top-ten list....

FOX TAKES LEAD AS SEASON’S NO. 1 NETWORK During a week in which Fox Broadcasting took over the lead from CBS to become the most-watched network of the season, the show that put it there, American Idol,drew more viewers than all its competition combined. Tuesday’s “performance” edition drew 29.88 million viewers, while Wednesday’s “results” show was not far behind with 27.13 million. It was a different tale with Fox’s Canterbury’s Law, which drew 7....

Tron: Legacy star Olivia Wilde is the latest in a long line of actresses connected to the Lois Lane role in Zack Snyder’s Superman. The actress has already tested for the part, and it is said that the production schedule for her upcoming movie Kin may be pushed back if she lands the role. Yesterday, we reported that actresses such as Jessica Biel, Kristen Stewart, Malin Akerman, Rachel McAdams and Dianna Agron had either read or will read for Lois Lane....

According to Variety, after bringing Rocky Balboa out of retirement, Sylvester Stallone is eyeing an encore for his other signature character, the killing machine named John Rambo, which he first appeared in 1982’s First Blood. Stallone has gone into business with Millennium Films, Emmett/Furla Films and Equity Pictures on Rambo IV. So far, they’ve got a plotline and a projected budget of $50 million and will soon get a writer to draft the script....
