It is hard to imagine the 1999 movie The Green Mile without the central performance of Michael Clarke Duncan as gifted gentle giant John Coffey, but it seems that could have been a very real prospect had another multi-talented star had agreed to take on the role. On the Marchand and Ourand sports media podcast, Shaquille O’Neal spoke about how he was originally offered the role of Coffey, but he had his own reasons for turning down the part in what would go on to be an Oscar nominated film....

The Sherlock Holmes film franchise is a recent mystery series based on the adventures of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic character Sherlock Holmes. The films feature a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Kelly Reilly, and many other well-known actors. Thanks to Guy Ritchie’s direction and highly stylized approach to the material, the Sherlock Holmes franchise has carved a name for itself as a unique take on the classic literature character, with special attention to how Holmes approaches scenarios in his head....

Sequel plans are underway for Godzilla vs. Kong, shooting in Australia later this year. While there isn’t much known about the next chapter, reports circulated last year that Adam Wingard was in talks to direct a possible “son-of” concept for which both Kong and Godzilla received treatments in 1933 and 1967. The concept could set up some interesting dynamics that could lean either more issue-focused with parental themes or even become much more comedic, as some critics have deemed the recent films to be somewhat lacking in depth....

Showtime has picked up seasons four and five of their award-winning original series, Penn & Teller: Bullshit!, it was announced today by Robert Greenblatt, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. The pick-up order will consist of 10, one-hour episodes for each season with season four premiering on Monday, April 3rd at 10:00 PM ET/PT. Entering its fourth season, this award-winning series featuring master showmen Penn & Teller, delivers viewers an aggressive, humorous expose of taboo topics using the duo’s trademark humor, knowledge of carnival tricks as well as hidden cameras and blatant confrontation....

After the Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC announced in July that it will re-cast certain roles and re-shoot the pilot, the first new cast member has finally been revealed. Michael Irby has been announced as the first new cast member for the re-shot pilot, playing Obispo “Bishop” Losa, a character who FX has said wasn’t in the original incarnation of the pilot. It isn’t ultimately clear how many characters will be re-cast, and how many new characters will be introduced at this point....

When Stan Lee was honored at the Jules Verne Adventure Film Festival in Los Angeles, he revealed to Collider that Marvel is seriously considering a film based on Power Pack. Lee said that all of the major Marvel characters have been considered for development into films. The last few years have already brought Marvel legends Spider-Man, The Hulk and the X-Men to the screen, with lesser-known characters Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Elektra and The Punisher also receiving their own movies....

INVESTORS WARY OF PHOENIX FLIGHT Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix turned into a bigger order than even Warner Bros. expected as the movie smashed records in its first five days, taking in a total of $140 million in North America and $330 million worldwide, the studio said Monday. Nevertheless shares in Time Warner, which is likely to take in more than $1 billion from the film eventually, barely inched forward on Monday, rising only seven cents....

WILL HARRY RULE ON WEEK 2? Two adult comedies, New Line’s Hairsprayand Universal’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, will try to unseat the family film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenixas the box-office leader this weekend. They’ll have their work cut out for them. Phoenixwas earning about $10 million per day in midweek ticket sales and has grossed about $177 million since its July 11 opening. The two newcomers were expected to earn around $30 million each....

COWELL WILL AGAIN BE RUNNING ON IDOL The possibility that American Idoljudge Simon Cowell would leave the talent show this season appeared to have been averted by a last-minute settlement with the show’s British creator, music mogul Simon Fuller. According to the industry website BroadcastNow.com, Cowell will receive a larger percentage of profits from American Idol,estimated to be between 30-40 percent. In return, Fuller will receive a 20 percent cut in Cowell’s new ITV show, The X Factor....

SAG VOTE – WHAT DOES IT MEAN? In a surprise – and somewhat confusing – result, members of a dissident group of the Screen Actors Guild won a bare majority of the 11 seats up for reelection on the union’s national board. Members of the Unite for Strength faction took five board seats and Membership First candidates also took five; an independent candidate, Morgan Fairchild, who has been critical of the Membership First leadership and was endorsed by Unite for Strength, also was elected to the board....

Super Mario Bros. is probably the most cherished game in history. This platform game, developed by Nintendo, was released in 1985 as the successor to the arcade game Mario Bros. and it became the first in the Super Mario series.
