TURIN TURNS AROUND NBC’S FORTUNESRatings for NBC’s coverage of the first three days of the Winter Olympics from Turin, Italy may have been down 35 percent from the similar period of the Salt Lake City Games four years ago, but they were strong enough to put the network in first place in overall numbers for the first time in nearly two years. The victory came despite a strong pre-Olympics showing by Fox’s American Idol and the best numbers ever for ABC’s Grey’s Anatomyand Fox’s House....

FRESTON FLOATS AWAY ON HIS GOLDEN PARACHUTE Underscoring the popular belief in the entertainment industry that being fired by Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone can be even more lucrative than being hired by him, an SEC report filed by the company on Monday indicates that Freston’s termination package will amount to some $85 million, including $58.9 million in annual salary and bonuses plus $14 million in deferred compensation and 401K. The former Viacom CEO, who spent less than a year in the post, has also agreed to become a consultant to the company for the next three years with a salary of $1 million a year....

THE HORROR! THE HORROR! THE HORROR! The nation’s movie theaters become the heart of darkness this weekend as horror films pour in in advance of Halloween. Moviegoers will take their choice among Lionsgate’s Saw VI, Paramount’s Paranormal Activity, and Universal’s Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant. Most box-office forecasters expect the latest Sawsequel to come out on top, but they’re hedging their bets. Carl DiOrio, who covers the box office for the Hollywood Reporter is predicting a $30-million debut for Saw, which was not screened in advance for critics....

NETWORKS RELEASE STRIKE SCHEDULES CBS and NBC on Monday unveiled revised schedules for winter that take into account an extended strike by the Writers Guild of America. The schedules, which, as expected, include a hefty mix of reality programs, also – surprisingly – include a fair number of original episodes. CBS, for example, is bringing back Jericho, a low-rated series from last season that it canceled and then put back into production after an outcry from fans....

Supergirl is flying toward its season 2 finale faster than a speeding bullet and, so far, details on the two-parter have been kept under wraps. We may still be light on specific story details, but we now have confirmation that some familiar faces will be joining up with Kara for the Supergirl season 2 conclusion. Both Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) are set to come back for the first time since the beginning of season 2....

The CW has released a new trailer for Supernatural season 15. All good things must come to an end, even Supernatural. Viewers have been following the Winchesters for 15 years as they cross the lonely and mysterious back roads of the country in beloved Impala as they hunt down evil forces. But season 15 is set to be the last ride for Sam and Dean, with the final run of episodes coming our way in October....

The CW Network has released the first trailer for this new season of Supernatural, which comes just one day after the new Supernatural Season 13 poster that dropped yesterday. The trailer gives fans their first look a this season’s villain, and also shows that the recent losses suffered by the Winchester Brothers have started to take their toll, with Dean even reaching out to God himself for help. Eric Weinberg, co-executive producer of hit hospital series Scrubs, was arrested in Los Angeles Thursday for sexually assaulting several young women between the years of 2012 and 2019. The Los Angeles Police Department announced Weinberg’s arrest at his Los Feliz residence in a statement, writing: “Northeast Area detectives have arrested a serial sexual assault suspect and are seeking to identify any additional victims. On July 14, 2022 around 12:00 p.m., Eric Weinberg was arrested at a residence in the 1900 block of East Edgemont Street in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles....
