DECK THE (MOVIE) HALLS WITH PENGUINS It was beginning to look a lot like Penguinmas as Warner Bros.’ animated Happy Feettopped the box office for the third week in a row, earning an estimated $17 million to bring its total after 17 days to $121 million. The Nativity Story, the biblical tale that was expected to give the penguin cartoon its only major competition turned in what Daily Varietycharitably called a “meek” performance, earning only $8 million – less than 10 percent of what Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christearned during its first weekend (although, to be fair, no one had expected Nativityeven to come close to duplicate the success of Passion)....

COMING SOON: 3D MOVIES ON YOUR PHONE Glasses-free 3D viewing is likely to come to mobile handsets before it reaches the TV set, thanks to a new display developed by 3M. The Field Sequential 3D Display Film would replace the standard screen on a mobile device and employ a directional backlight that focuses an image to the viewer’s right and left eyes sequentially. 3M’s products, most of which are distributed under the Scotch brand, include numerous lines of magnetic and film goods but it is not a known player in mobile applications....

Local West Virginian TV station WTOV9 is reporting that the highly-anticipated J.J. Abrams’ movie Super 8 is preparing to shoot in Weirton, West Virginia. The town’s Marland Heights Community Church is being converted into a school for the production, and it was also reported that another church is being converted into a police station. Sydney Sweeney is facing backlash on social media after sharing photos from a recent family function. The actress threw a “surprise hoedown” in Idaho on Saturday to celebrate her mother’s 60th birthday; party-goers were treated to a slew of hoedown-themed activities, including line dancing, a mechanical bull, jean jacket embroidery, hatchet throwing, archery, and a live band. Sweeney posted several photos of the celebration on Instagram alongside a sweet caption, writing, “no better way to celebrate my momma than a surprise hoedown....

Sydney Sweeney has taken TV by storm over the past few years. The 24-year-old actress, whose collaborators swear she has “a certain kind of magic” in front of the camera, first caught viewers’ attention as Emaline in Netflix’s Everything Sucks! in 2018. Sweeney would gain wider recognition later that year for her roles as Eden in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and Alice in HBO’s miniseries Sharp Objects. Her true breakout role came the following year, though, when Sweeney joined the cast of HBO’s Euphoria as Cassie Howard....

You can bring home the complete adventures of Matt Damon’s high-octane character on DVD this November. The Bourne Trilogy will be released on DVD on November 4. This three-disc set will contain all three films, The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. No special features details were given, but this set will be priced at $34.98 SRP. The series stars Matt Damon as the amnesiac Jason Bourne....

Star Trek is primed to be one of the biggest films in 2009 and two of the men who made it happen recently spoke about the film. The hit Syfy series Being Human continues Season 3 with “(Dead) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” Monday, January 21 at 9 PM ET. Series star Sam Witwer and executive producer Anna Fricke recently held a conference call to discuss the new episodes, which puts a new spin on the series format. Sam Witwer, who plays the vampire Aidan, spoke about the changes these characters undergo. Anna Fricke added to the actor’s statement, revealing the pain these characters go through is a very human process....

It seems the Farrelly Brothers long-awaited remake is back on track. The Boston Herald is reporting that Sean Penn is set to return to The Three Stooges. Penn left the project back in June to concentrate on his family and his then-troubled marriage with actress Robin Wright Penn. Now, according to Bobby Farrelly, Penn is back on board. The Farrelly Brothers start shooting their new film, Hall Pass, starring Owen Wilson, in Atlanta next month, and it was said that the Farrelly’s were also scouting locations for The Three Stooges while in Atlanta for that film....

Actress Sharon Stone recently revealed in the magazine Prestige that she will be shooting a new film next year entitled Satisfaction. She will be starring in the film with Chris Evans and Carice van Houten and here’s how she described the film in the article: Stone said she would begin shooting the film in January 2010. Anya Camilleri is directing the film from a script by Simon Burke. It’s about a male prostitute in London who loses the older woman who’s been taking care of him, and the call-out agency he’s worked for is tired of his behaviour and don’t want to send him out any more....

The latest photos from Marvel’s upcoming superhero series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law provide the best look yet at Charlie Cox as Daredevil in his new yellow suit. Cox will reprise his role as The Man Without Fear from Netflix’s DefendersVerse in She-Hulk for the first time since his MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The only difference is that in She-Hulk, we’ll get to see Matt Murdock the lawyer as well as his vigilante alter ego, Daredevil....

Actor Michael Jace, best known for playing Los Angeles cop Julien Lowe on FX’s groundbreaking crime drama series The Shield, will likely be spending the rest of his life behind bars. The actor was sentenced to a term of 40 years to life for murdering his wife April back in May 2014. Michael Jace was convicted of second-degree murder last week, after the jury of six men and six women deliberated for less than three hours....

Horror is dominating the month of October. After debuting in the top spot last weekend, Paramount’s new movie Smile retained its No. 1 spot at for the second week in a row. The film is projected to earn $17.6 million with a decline of just 22%, which is a particularly remarkable feat for horror movies. Smile has now earned nearly $90 million worldwide. Smile also managed to outpace two new releases, with Sony’s family comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile pulling in $11....

Director Steven Soderbergh is teaming up with his Contagion screenwriter Scott Z. Burns for a new project entitled The Bitter Pill. Little is known about the storyline of The Bitter Pill, except that it will be set in the world of psychopharmacology, the scientific field which looks at how drugs affect the mind. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing The Bitter Pill alongside Gregory Jacobs. The project is currently being pitched to several studios....

Steven Spielberg’s latest attempt to bring The Talisman to the screen has hit a snag, according to The Hollywood Reporter. TNT’s six-hour adaptation of the Stephen King-Peter Straub novel, executive produced by Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, has been put on hold because of budgetary issues. The limited series, from DreamWorks TV, was announced by TNT in December and scheduled for a summer 2008 premiere. After all scripts were recently completed, it became clear that their execution would require a larger budget than previously allocated....
