14-year old Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard opens up about working with Sean Astin and Paul Reiser in the upcoming Stranger Things Season 2. Wolfhard has been tapped to host the Strange 80s event, a benefit concert for the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund in Los Angeles, which takes place May 14th at the Fonda Theater. Speaking of the 80s, Wolfhard is also set to star in the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s horror classic IT due in theaters September 8th, 2017....

i>GHOST RIDER FIRES UP BOX OFFICE Thumbing its nose at film critics, Ghost Rider blazed into more than 3,600 theaters over the four-day President’s Day weekend and set a record for the holiday. The Nicolas Cage-starring film based on the Marvel comics superhero, which received overwhelmingly negative reviews on Friday, took in $51.5 million, well above the previous record for the holiday – $45.1 million for 2004’s 50 First Dates.Other new releases also performed strongly, especially Disney’s Bridge to Terabithia, which placed second with $29 million over the four days....

SAG CIVIL WAR RAGES ON David White, who was named interim replacement for Doug Allen as executive director of the Screen Actors Guild on Monday, has called upon union members to “turn the page on the most destructive aspects of the guild’s internal politics.” But SAG President Alan Rosenberg is hearing nothing of it, lashing out at the union’s board of directors for its decision to fire Allen. “Many of us believe that Doug Allen was fired because he was simply too good, too strong, and too much a unionist,” Rosenberg said in a message to members on Tuesday, following White’s plea for reconciliation....

HARRY FALLS 62 PERCENT The final take for the second weekend of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince turned out to be even less enchanting than the original estimates. Ticket sales were down 62 percent to $29.5 million. While the film enjoyed a terrific midweek kickoff, it has trailed its predecessor, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, on each day since. Some analysts observed that some Harry Potter fans may have been waiting for a wider release of the IMAX version of the movie....

SAG-AMPTP TALKS TO RESUME, WITH A MEDIATOR The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on Thursday accepted federal mediation in its dispute with the Screen Actors Guild but, in a statement, appeared to hold out little hope of further compromise unless the union dropped key demands for benefits in the realm of new media that the AMPTP had refused to grant other Hollywood labor unions. The union’s chief negotiator, Doug Allen, said that he looked “forward to meeting with the federal mediator and the AMPTP [negotiating] committee as soon as possible....

SAG’S ALLEN CHALLENGES MODERATES In what he labeled “an important message” that he sent to union members on Sunday, during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, Screen Actors Guild chief negotiator and Executive Director Doug Allen accused moderates within the union of severely undermining his negotiating strategy with film and TV producers. He proposed what he called a “compromise” in which the union would send out the producers’ offer to the membership for a vote, accompanied by arguments pro and con....

NBA FINALS A CLEAR WINNER FOR ABC Game 3 of the NBA Finals Tuesday night averaged 14.5 million viewers during primetime, 55 percent more than the 9.0 million who tuned in for Game 3 a year ago, according to Nielsen Media Research. The ABC telecast, which saw the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics in a low-scoring (87-81) contest, averaged a 6.9 rating and a 12 share.
