The Mandalorian is expected to return for its third season in 2023. The Disney+ series has been a huge success of Star Wars, effectively jump-starting the franchise’s foray into streaming, with The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi being successes in their own right as well. More than anything, The Mandalorian centered a Mandalorian bounty hunter, the first in the Star Wars franchise, and brought a newfound popularity to this complex culture of people....

It might even be that way on Blu-ray, with all these new kids discovering it. I have a teenager, and all of her guy friends are loving this movie. They hadn’t seen it before. After the deadly on-set accident that took the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, it seemed like production on Rust would never be finished. In October 2021, Hutchins had been preparing to start filming a scene for the Western when a prop gun held by lead star Alec Baldwin discharged a live round, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. An investigation was launched into the incident, but at this time, no criminal charges have been filed against Baldwin or any other crew members involved with the production....

Producers Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters have acquired the rights and are planning a biopic based on Marshall Terrill’s biography “Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel.” According to Variety, the project will likely land at Paramount, where Cerenzie-Peters Prods. has a first-look deal. The project will primarily chronicle McQueen’s Hollywood career, which began in 1956 when the Indiana native got his break in the film Somebody Up There Likes Me....

Spoiler Warning: Stranger Things Season 4 Stranger Things season four was daring, dreary, and downright dark. Handfuls of hapless Hawkinites were harmed during the season’s first seven episodes. Those who escaped a gruesome death at the hands of the villainous Vecna found themselves staring down the barrel of either an angry mob of concerned citizens or a mad scientist’s malicious machinations, neither of which seemed all that desirable. MOVIES LIFT TIME WARNER Time Warner reported better-than-expected earnings for its second quarter Wednesday, with its movie and cable businesses substantially offsetting declines in its publishing and AOL units. The Warner Bros. unit was an especially big winner, with solid ticket sales for Sex and the Cityand Get Smart and store sales of the I Am Legend DVD. (Revenue from The Dark Knightwill be reported in its third-quarter filing.) Speaking with analysts on Wednesday, Time Warner chief Jeff Bewkes said that the success of Sex and the City was particularly gratifying because the franchise has benefited so many parts of the company....

ABC (W)HOOPS IT UP The first two games of the NBA finals produced the best initial ratings for the championship series in four years. Sunday’s telecast, which drew 13.5 million viewers, attracted an audience that was 60 percent larger than the comparable game a year ago. Although it did not land in the top ten (largely because three shows tied for ninth place) the new CBS drama Swingtown got off to a solid start with 9 million viewers....

DreamWorks Pictures has set Brett Ratner to direct the long-gestating adaptation of The 39 Clues. We first reported on this project back in September 2008, when screenwriter Jeff Nathanson was hired to adapt this young adult novel series. At the time, it was being developed as a possible vehicle for Steven Spielberg to direct. Now Jeff Nathanson will reunite with Brett Ratner, who directed Tower Heist from Jeff Nathanson’s script....

It’s beginning to look like The Conners will be returning for season 3. Sara Gilbert, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Lecy Goranson have reportedly closed new deals to return. It is believed that season 3 will consist of nineteen episodes, though the upcoming season has yet to be officially confirmed by ABC or the cast. With deals now closed, it seems that an official announcement is imminent. Apparently a license fee deal between ABC and Tom Werner’s Werner Entertainment needs to be reached before an announcement can be made....

Roseanne Barr has signed on for a guest-starring role in the final season of NBC’s comedy series The Office. The actress will play a talent agent named Carla Fern in an upcoming Season 9 episode, with her scenes set to be filmed today. The character is in Scranton to help Dunder Mifflin manager Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) break into showbiz. It isn’t known when the episode may air, or if the actress will return at any point throughout the remainder of Season 9....

Fans of Watchmen have a bonus headed their way as Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter/Under the Hood heads their way on Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, March 24. SHOWTIME has announced its panel line-up for the 2010 Comic-Con which will feature stars from some of the network’s biggest original series.
